Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Apr 21, 2009 7:11 pm It seems like we put a great deal of thought into concrete style colour and patterns for our driveways but a lot less thought about the type sealer used to finish it. I am now ready to pattern and seal a new drive but when looking around at finished driveways in the local area it is quite disturbing to see faded and discolorated driveways that cannot be more than a few years old. Are there any subject matter experts out there who can provide advice on which sealing products may be best. I am advised that resealing every 18 months is an option however I can't believe there isn't a product out there that can provide a more robust finish that last longer than 18 mths. Thanks in advance. Re: Sealing Concrete Driveways 2Apr 21, 2009 9:24 pm interesting topic, we're going stenciling and presumed without researching yet that we'd have to redo it every 12 - 18 months, there are a stack of nice newer houses around here that have very faded stenciled or coloured concrete and it looks awful, such a waste Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. Re: Sealing Concrete Driveways 6Dec 28, 2009 10:50 am It's important to properly prepare these surfaces before sealing. For best results, ths means having it thoroughly cleaned by a contractor. Acid treatments may be required before painting or top coat type sealers are applied. There are good water based penetrating type sealers too, which I think are a better choice than the xylene based sealers. Consider too.... if a concrete drive has a significant incline, when sealed it may make it somewhat more slippery, especially when wet. Ash.
