Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Mar 29, 2009 7:00 pm Hi guys. AM getting quotes for about 100m2 of paving. Im getting varying ideas from guys about using a sand base on crushed rock or using mortar on crushed rock. Some guys are telling me they will only use mortar or will not do the job, where the guys who want to use sand are saying that mortar is overkill.. Price wise there is obviously a bit of difference, but in the end i just want a good job that will last. Any hints? Re: PAVING - ON MORTAR OR SAND 2Mar 31, 2009 9:00 pm Definitely go mortar. We have had pavers on sand and after a while they sank in a few spots and we had to lift them and re-do the base. Also, weeds can be a problem over time. If we ever had them again they would be cemented down and have mortar in the joins, wouldn't even bother with sand again either.
