Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Feb 24, 2009 10:53 am Hi, I tried to send this message previously, but someething went wrong, so apologise if it is a repost.
1. We recently had a concrete driveway poured at our ne house being built in Bundoora and we are due to have the final inspection tomorrow (wednesday). The problem is that our driveway is on a steep incline, ie it rises ~1.7m over 7.5m and the driveway has had to be repoured 3 times to get the slope correct so the cars don't bottom out. Now when the driveway was first poured, the interface concrete level between the driveway concrete and the concrete slab was level, ie you could drive the wheels over that area and you wouldn't notice the transition. But in this last pour, their is a step of ~20mm whereby the driveway concrete is ~20mm lower than the garage slab where it joins. I perceive this to be a problem, but the builders shrigged it off saying that the concreters probably did this to prevent water from running into the garage - I find this absurb considering the driveway drops steeply downwards from the entrance. So my question is, is this acceptable? Is there any standard, design guideline etc that says it should be level at the interface? If my driveway was fairly level, I probably wouldn't my the step, but going uphill could cause a problem and be a safety issue. 2. As the driveway was poured over a number of attempts, the lower half of the driveway was poured about a month before the top half and as a result the "black" colouring that was added to the concrete when they were trowelling it has discoloured differently. The builders said that they would seal it so that it looks the same and shouldn't be a problem. But going back in time when the concrete was first poured, I asked them if they were going to seal it - they replied saying that it shouldn't be sealed because it would make it slipperry. It seams the builders are changing the story to suit their agenda. Can someone please help me here with the situation I have. What should be done to ensure good colour and provide maximum slip resistance. Thank you all in advance for your help. JK Re: Urgent request on concrete driveway 2Feb 24, 2009 12:50 pm tough one....
try here http://tinyurl.com/smeags its a link to the victorian building commission tolerances and standards. You can see if it talks about concrete laying. good luck. smeags. ---->Some say that a recession is when your neighbour loses his/her job while a depression is when you lose yours!<----- Re: Urgent request on concrete driveway 4Feb 24, 2009 8:02 pm 20mm set down is normal, but on a large incline it may not be needed but it is standard practice
coloured concrete has to be sealed, if it is on a steep incline the sealer applicator can add a non slip addiditive, this is available from most major concrete product suppliers Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com 1) I had requested R6 ceiling insualtion batts, however I noticed that on some areas there are huge gaps which will allow hot air to sweep in, and also noticed black/grey… 0 3585 To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9831 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10929 |
