Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Feb 05, 2009 12:15 am As per a previous post we've had some exposed aggregate concrete laid down by a local contractor (Werribee) picked from the local rag...seem to find good tradies in our local paper.
It's behind the garage, what I call the "off side" of the house. Wanted something low maintenance, wouldn't show the dirt (light or dark), big enough for junior to ride around on. Was going down the path of plain concrete because I couldn't justify the expense of what I thought would be horribly expensive exposed agg. Here's the area we wanted done...basically 49 sq.m of drive. To my mind the $20 per square metre differential in price was a no brainer. Bobcat and tipping was a bit of a rip off but overall the price was OK. Day One (6:45 am) they did the excavation which ended up being surprisingly a lot considering how flat it looks, screenings, forms and set up the drainage along the roller door and at the clothesline into the existing stormwater. Day Two (6:45 am) they poured...note juniors foot prints....argh! Here's a close up of the mix (not yet sealed)...it's nothing special...I call it "Phil's Special Mix"...he could do others...this one cost $140 per cubic metre told me where he sources his mix from and if I wanted another I only needed to pay the differential per cubic metre. And it's in non-colored concrete. Gave me an address of where he done this color before and I liked the fact that this mix didn't seem to show as much dirt, wear, or muck as the other exposed drives in the same area. I know it's not some fancy "Sunset Over Uluru on a Midsommer Day" color...it's utilitarian, only we see it, and a good price.... ...horses for courses. Drainage appears to be working well as well. And yes the 6:45 am starts got a bit old...very quickly.... mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Château TDL: TDL Exposes Himself...well concrete anyway! 2Feb 05, 2009 8:22 am I actually think that's a great mix because it will go with any style/colour of house.
Also, not being too dark, it won't get quite as hot under little feet. Good choice. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Château TDL: TDL Exposes Himself...well concrete anyway! 3Feb 05, 2009 9:35 am to_do_list
I think that's a great mix also, looks fine! For that price, you should be very happy. cheers Chris Re: Château TDL: TDL Exposes Himself...well concrete anyway! 4Feb 05, 2009 10:06 am TDL - the Chateau is indeed coming along very nicely. And yes Junior should enjoy practising Hardie Ferodo skids on that pad Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Château TDL: TDL Exposes Himself...well concrete anyway! 5Feb 05, 2009 10:48 am The color is actually quite cool even on stinking hot days...and DS has already set up the "Fifth Gear Slalom Challenge" for his tricycle.
