we most probably will be going for it too.. have u noticed any cons so far? like slipperyness? Built PD Beaumont 35 - One year down in the new house.. still so much to do.. Re: Slate Finish Concrete...Anyone??? 13Mar 26, 2009 3:38 am Hi, my first post here. I have had a stamped concrete drive in my current home (currently selling - contract stage) for 15 years. It has a slate impression, and is not disimilar to the contained driveway photo. A couple of points: 1. It does get slippery when wet. The newer the sealer the more slippery it is. Knocked myself out once. 2. I had one experience with the non slip sealer additive. Its like a white powder that is mixed with sealer, and made my driveway look like it had salt sprinkled all over it. Took three years for it to wear off. 3. It is more difficult to clean than smooth concrete or stencilled concrete due to the depressions. 4. It is not suitable for a steep driveway due to the slippery surface previously explained. 5. its really easy to seal it yourself. Once every two years is fine. I live in a harsh climate (-8degC to 40 degC). A 5-10mm nap paint roller, and not applying it too thick. Its one of the easier home maintenance jobs. A 20litre drum of sealer will cover about 75 - 80m2 (my driveway size). In all, its been an awesome driveway. Easy care, and IMHO looks so much classier than stencil or coloured concrete. The quality of finish depends solely on the ability of the concretor. My observations of other driveways, in comparison to my own, are that the colour of the release agent, and how much of it the concretor leaves on the driveway has a big effect on the look. Too much release and it looks washed out. inspect the concretors previous jobs, and enjoy. Sorry for long post. Re: Slate Finish Concrete...Anyone??? 15Mar 27, 2009 8:09 pm Thats the best idea. You can see colours and job quality. Ours has lasted perfectly with minimal maintenance due to the quality of the installation. I'm sure you agree it makes the difference. Re: Slate Finish Concrete...Anyone??? 16Mar 29, 2009 8:10 pm Thanks for your detailed reply ozberg. We actually changed our mind about this around 2 weeks ago and now are more inclined towards color through stencil concrete. Built PD Beaumont 35 - One year down in the new house.. still so much to do.. I would probably render it and then paint it as per your other advice, or gyrpock over the top. 1 3329 To put anything over slate you will need to put self level compound over the entire area as slate various in thickness and is very un even. To install most types of… 1 381 just pull up the slate. If you go over the top, your tiles would not have an even surface to be glued to. Im no tiler, but i can imagine a couple of things being an issue… 1 312 |
