Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Jan 06, 2009 8:39 am My 25 year old 2 story brick home has a painting concrete verandah around 3 sides. Currently painted in (dare I say it?) mission brown paint which is peeling in quite a few spots.
I can't afford to get the whole area resurfaced by professionals but am quite happy to do the work repainting myself, providing I know exactly how to go about it. The advice from the bloke at Bunnings was just to scrub the concrete and repaint with paving paint. I have a pressure cleaner which I'm fairly sure will peel a lot of the paint off fairly easily. Do I need to take the whole lot back to bare concrete (will be messy). Can someone please explain what I steps I need to take to get a good finish? I am happy to do the labour, and happy to recoat it when necessary, but don't want it to be peeling straight off again. Any suggestions re brands would be helpful too. PS The new paint colour will be another issue that I'll save for later! Re: Repainting old concrete verandah 2Jan 06, 2009 4:02 pm hire a concrete polisher from kennards etc. then clear seal it with a penetrative concrete sealer (xylene based) and you will have a kinda terrazo finish Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: Repainting old concrete verandah 4Jan 06, 2009 11:52 pm Again I second davinci's advice. The polisher is straight forward to use and the results will look great. Much better than painting and still affordable. Re: Repainting old concrete verandah 5Jan 07, 2009 7:56 am I need more info on the concrete polishing idea .... are you saying I just hire the machine and it removes all the paint and prepares the surface? I don't need to somehow strip the paint off first? What about thin cracks in concrete? I also rang a local hire company who were also very helpful. Now I just have to convice my husband to give this a go. I will take before and after photos of the job and hopefully upload onto this site for anyone else who may be interested. Won't be for a couple of weeks though as I will wait until after my kitchen renovation has finished first (it starts next week). Cheers!
