Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Nov 21, 2008 8:45 pm I wanted to do a bit of outdoor tiling over a concrete slab. The concrete slab is in sound condition, but some of the area gets driven over quite regularly.
Will the tiles hold up to the traffic or should I be looking at paving over the concrete? I don't want spray paving. Re: Outdoor tiles over concrete slab 2Nov 21, 2008 9:49 pm I think you can get tiles/stone that is suitable for use as driveways so that could work but I'm sure someone else could tell you for sure. Re: Outdoor tiles over concrete slab 3Nov 21, 2008 10:26 pm I have seen a garage that has been tiled but I belive they paid alot more for a specific floor tile and glue that would withstand the car weight. Re: Outdoor tiles over concrete slab 4Nov 22, 2008 8:13 pm a natural stone such as bluestone (basalt), limestone, granite would be suitable in a high load area using a quality adhesive like optima http://www.ardexaustralia.com/aba/pdfs/ ... a_0104.pdf
dont use soft stone like sandstone or pave with a minimum paver thickness of 50mm on a acrylic impregnated mortar using wet on wet method of laying, max 4mm grout gaps. control joints need to be cut into slab which in turn have to line up with grout lines at minimum 2.5 mtr intervals high end pavers such as Urbanstone make a trafficable paver at 40mm thick Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: Outdoor tiles over concrete slab 5Nov 23, 2008 9:11 am Thanks for the suggestions guys. I would have though most tiles would hold up to car traffic, so long and the adhesive and slab were suitably rigid. I guess I've got some more investigating to do.
I was mostly looking at smallish (200-250mm) outdoor ceramic tiles. Paving would be the other option. Just have to work around some height issues if that was the case. Thanks again Re: 6Mar 27, 2009 11:02 pm davinci dont use soft stone like sandstone Davinci what do you think of sandstone for an alfresco area? Still sometime away before we do anything with that area, but it will have a concrete slab attached to the house so it will require some form of paver in the future. thanks. the above one is white Mat tiles and have gripness so going for this Mat tiles for both indoor and outdoor.
