http://www.originalcolorchips.com/index.html any idea where something like this might be sourced in Australia? Re: Concrete floor coating 2Oct 23, 2008 12:31 pm I have been attempting to source this stuff too for our new rumpus area under the house. There is a company in Brendale - north of Brisbane that sells it. When I phoned to enquire about their products, the person I spoke to told me that it was too difficult and expensive (when buying small quantities) for diy. He gave me the number of a local fellow that does it, however, after speaking to him, the cost is approx. $65 per sq metre, which is really NOT cheap.
Here is the website if you want to have a look. http://www.concretetech.com.au/CTECH/client/c_index.jsp I am planning on trying a product called Cromelin, which is available at Bunnings, and can give a similar appearance (although not sure if they have the actual chips). Sounds like it is a bit easier than the other stuff too. http://www.crommelin.com.au/flooring.php I have been researching this for months now, and am finding it all rather disapointing - the lack of products for diy in Australia. It seems there are some terrific businesses in the US doing this, but not here in Aus. I was really keen on the acid stain floors - they look fantastic! But really difficult to obtain here in Australia, and everyone I have found that does supply it, really does their best to turn you off trying to do it yourself. It seems you need to have a perfect slab - free from inperfections and grease, dirt etc. in order to use them. I don't have that luxury, as our floor was previously a garage, so I think the cleaning etc. would be painful. In the US they have products that you can use to cover your slab inperfections - a 'skim coat' but I have been unable to locate where to get this stuff in Aust. for diy. Let me know how you go. I would be most interested in anything you discover. Best of luck, Sam Re: Concrete floor coating 3Oct 23, 2008 7:52 pm Thanks Sam,
I didn't know concrete technology did that sort of thing, even though I have been to their website before when I was looking for info on driveways. I have pretty much decided to go with the crommelin. I found that other product last night and thought it would give a nicer, less industrial look (which I don't actually mind anyway!). As you say the cost of these things kind of puts it out of the budget if you're looking for a cheap option as we are. Crommelin has been used by another HO member: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.p ... 07&start=0 I'm personally not a fan of the swirlly pattern they've used, but to each his own. I like that you can tint the crommelin AND if you totally stuff it up, you can tile over it. Nothing ventured... Re: Concrete floor coating 4Oct 23, 2008 8:16 pm I'm planning on trying the cromelin too in a couple of weeks - need to spend this weekend cleaning the concrete first
The only thing that bothers me about the cromelin, is that there doesn't seem to be too much information about application techniques on there website. After reading the other blog on here, I am not sure how they managed to get one colour over the other as such. What I would really like is a grey /white marble look, which I am not really sure I can acheive with this stuff, but am willing to give it a go. I just wish there was more info on their site about how to achieve different patterns. Like you, the pics on the blog on here, are not really my thing - don't really like the 'swept' look. Kind of looks like they have done it with a broom. But I really like the two tone they have acheived. Do let me know if you find anymore info, or if you get it done, let me know how it looks. Best of luck. Sam Re: Concrete floor coating 5Oct 23, 2008 9:42 pm Sounds like you're way ahead of us. We still haven't even had our site scraped yet - so, this is a long way off.
I agree, it would be good to get some more info from the company, but thats another thing that makes me think it can't be too hard. Good luck with it.
