Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 May 15, 2021 6:07 pm I'm planning to get a concrete slab in my backyard and was after some advice on some of the work I can do myself to save on having concreters do the whole job. My plan is basically to excavate, level, compact, spread roadbase and compact again. Excavation is basically done at this point, levelling and compacting should be done next week. My question is, whats recommended as a subbase for the slab? I've seen a lot of mixed responses in various situations that didn't quite match mine. My running idea at the moment was 100mm of roadbase and a 100mm slab. The soil here is clayey and doesn't drain well so I figure the subbase is a must. The slab is basically an extension of my patio with a 3x3 shed going in the corner. Mostly just foot traffic/wheelbarrow/plants/etc. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Concrete slab advice 3May 20, 2021 7:42 am Sounds like you have got everything sorted out. If you do that you should have a better job than many concretors would do. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
