Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Feb 06, 2021 7:46 pm Hi, I'm building a shed; 10 x 5 metres on a farm. It consists of. ● 10 piers 600 x 750 ● Perimeter beams 300x450 ● 1 Internal beam 300x450 The piers start at the bottom of the beam. I have done all excavations. Soil H2. My questions relate to vapour barriers. 1/ If I pour the piers first and drill/glue tie bars into the piers (instead of cages which seem overkill) to tie into the beam how do I ensure vapour barrier is good? 2/ If I pour piers/beams/slab together how do install vapour barrier? Cut piers out and don't worry about plastic? 3/ How crucial is the vapour barrier and will water get through around reo tie bars joining pier/beam connection? 4/ If I pour all at once can I just cut out the piers and not even worry about vapour barrier? Will table water travel up though pier/footing/slab?? Any advice from experienced concreters appreciated. Re: Concrete Slab Shed 2Feb 10, 2021 9:01 pm Hi being a self standing slab we would pour the piers first, all the engineering I’ve ever gone off don’t ask to tie the cages or steel to the piers this is just to support the compressive load and doesn’t need to be tied in, you would place the moisture barrier (plastic) under your bar chairs prior to installing steel mesh, One corner of my shed slab will be directly over a 1400mm diameter concrete soakwell. Is it feasible to fill the soakwell with concrete then lay the shed slab over the… 0 657 Is it possible to render an old corrugated iron shed.I have heard that it can be done if it is covered with chicken wire first. Not sure of the ratio of the render mix and… 0 4896 Thanks.
