Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Oct 20, 2012 7:14 am I recently built a new house, however the concreting job done was rubbish. Firstly i think the contractor didn't put the correct amount of colour through the mix, thus it came out too light. So he put a sealer over the top to make it darker. Anyway this sealer has worn off very quickly, in about 3 - 4 months (see pic). It looks terrible. I am after opinions on what i should do to rectify? I've had quotes to grind off the surface and spray on a new layer of concrete (much like you would do with stencile) however the cost is about $10k! (the area is about 150sqm). I wonder are there any other resurfacing options that don't cost the earth? Before you outlay $10k would it be an option for you to reseal it? The concreter also suggested we do our garage floor with the sealer/colour which we did for a cost of around $180. Hubby did three coats and there is enough to do it again. We have had no fading in either the driveway or garage like yours. In the photo the lighter colour just looks like normal concrete, do you know if they put any colour in it at all or just threw the colour on after the pour? Regards, Grumbles Re: Rectification options for my driveway 3Oct 22, 2012 5:27 pm Thanks for the response. Yes it could be an option to reseal it but i've been told (by a couple of concrete tradesmen) the top layer will have to be ground off first? They did put colour in (the mix) apparently, it was a light purple-ish colour when they initially did it - so they put something in... We asked for a dark grey/charcoal colour. I am not sure what to do! Re: Rectification options for my driveway 4Oct 22, 2012 9:39 pm I'm no expert either, but can you consider spray-on resurfacing? Although, I've been told that it's better if the dwy wasn't sealed to start with. Did you ask them WHY does it have to be ground?? Maybe the "grinding" suggestion was because of the existing sealer.
