Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Oct 27, 2016 1:48 pm Hi I have to pour a 6m x 6m slab for a steel garage. I have the engineering for the slab. Over the years i have poured slabs that didn't require engineering or council approval. I always used steel mesh, plastic, chairs to support the mesh and steel in the external and external beams. The way i placed the steel in the beams was my own method and probably not correct. Can anyone help me out with the following please. N12 starter bars 600 long N12 corner bars 3-12TM 2.0m long at re-entrant corners Also a note saying 20 top cover internal and 40 top cover external in the slab notes, guessing this means the depth of the reinforcement from the top of the concrete? Clear reinforcement top cover is to be 20mm? Fabric is to be supported at 800mm centres both ways I know a lot of the notes on the engineering are just general to cover all methods which I'm thinking the fabric one is. Any diagrams, pictures or links would be a great help so that i can get on with the fun part which is putting the shed up. HELP PLEASE Thanks Re: Steel in Concrete Slab HELP PLEASE 2Oct 28, 2016 11:09 am Last shed slab I did required a plan submission including the engineering for the slab, but they did not come out to do a pre pour inspection, only a final inspection after the shed was erected. So find out their inspection regime first. If they dont come out to do a pre pour inspection, just do the slab as you have done before if you know your emthod is good. Yes 20mm cover over the reo is ideal if you can achieve it, but just no lower than the middle of the slab generally is fine. Make sure you know where the reo is so you dont drill into it when drilling the holes for the fixing bolts. Mark the location out on the boxing, then transfer those marks onto the slab when you take off the boxing. Re: Steel in Concrete Slab HELP PLEASE 3Oct 28, 2016 1:14 pm Thanks but I'm an owner builder and their going to haunt me. My block is rural very close to town and will never again buy a block that requires council building approval etc again.
Local steel supplier drew a few rough sketches for me and now have a pretty good understanding of the terminology and basic wiring up location of the corner bars etc. Wish there were some members that are retired concreters lol, the local guys here wont tell ya anything lol. Thanks Re: Steel in Concrete Slab HELP PLEASE 4Oct 28, 2016 1:25 pm No block is exempt form council influence, every block pays rate and is subject to the laws of the land. However if you're rural, and its unlikely your neighbours have a reason to complain, just build it without approval. Re: Steel in Concrete Slab HELP PLEASE 5Oct 28, 2016 1:40 pm Bought 10 acres further out of town and when i contacted the building inspector about approval he laughed and said build what you like just don't go building a factory and laughed. Yes i pay rates and still got everything engineered and inspected privately just incase. A lot of the blocks further out are even advertised by the realestate as not requiring building approval. Have been clearing trees on the new block and building inspector has dropped in for a chat already and haven't even picked up a hammer yet. Hi I am wanting some opinions about the build of a steel shed I am going to get one about 4.5 x 2.5 m steel shed and the height will be about 2.3-2.4m high The one I am… 0 14939 i had the my concreters concrete right up to the fence. I have pits all along my path, so the water tends to drain away from the house and into the pits. There's only one… 7 13411 The concreter will take and reuse. In my case I bought structural LVLs and scraped them back and used them as joists. 1 5818 |
