You'd want to grind the adhesive off the floor properly, an acid etch definitely wont remove the tiling adhesive. We tried one of those thin concrete toppers, but like you said, they are no good. They just dont stand up to the wear and tear. Dont think you will ever get the colours matched of a coloured concrete slab matched to a sealer on another slab, for one the gloss and finishes will make them look different.
