Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 03, 2008 5:36 am Hi everyone
Kirribilli posted a picture of her bath on another thread. (I hope you dont mind talking about the beautiful finish in your bathroom ) I think the tiling is so professionally finished around the edge because I notice in the majority of finishes in bathrooms, a thin edging, often a chrome/white strip is used on the for the 90 degrees joins. Question...how did they get the tiles to butt up to each other so perfectly? and why arent all baths done like this in regards to the tiling? My parents have a similar thing in their bathrooms (ie no trim on the angled bits) but the tiling isn't done as neatly as in kirribilli's pic.

Mrs B Re: Kirribilli's Tiling around the bath 5Oct 03, 2008 8:49 am Hi Mrs B, These are mitred edges and I have to say until I saw photos on this thread I had nvere seen the metal edges that you guys use over there.
I would say 95% of baths over here in the west are done this way. Thinking about it though it may have something to do with our bath hobs being built out of brick as we generally do not use blueboard which I think is what you guys use to form your baths. But I am no builder so I am not sure exactly the reasons I am just sumising. I have to say though Tilers will generally charge more to mitre your tiles as well so its a cost factor also. Re: Kirribilli's Tiling around the bath 6Oct 03, 2008 9:42 am This is how I want my shower recess and bath done, I do not like the metal strips. The bath I have now is done like the photo which is very clean and professional, and I will not settle for anything less no metal strips for me. Bytheway, that bath looks very special Re: Kirribilli's Tiling around the bath 7Oct 03, 2008 9:58 am Mmmm, another thing to add to the PCV... Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! Only just saw this thread! Yes they are mitred edges, an upgrade which cost us $300, this included all edges - bath, spa, walls, shower hobs and hobs around vanities and laundry tub/cupboards - didn't think that was too bad a price and the finish is well worth it. Also, our spa and bath are bricked in. We did want a border tile along the top but it was discontinued by the time they ordered the tiles. Still don't mind the straight edge! Glad you liked it. Thanks. Bathroom renovation will likely include a back-to-corner bath and we’re considering a freestanding tap with hand-held shower such as the picture included.
