Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 02, 2008 10:44 am Another 2 questions about shower related things…
I may have asked this before, so apologies for that, but… 1. Do you need a plumber to install glass shelves in the shower enclosure? I want them properly attached, not just those suction ones. I want 2 long glass shelves that would span about 3 large-ish tiles. 2. I mentioned in another thread getting a mirror in the shower (NOT a full length one, to clarify, just a square one for my facial area), and I again don’t want a suction one. Everyone seems to sell these, but I don’t trust them. I know they must be fairly good since they sell for over $50 and stuff , but…in my experience, all the things we’ve had suctioned to our bathroom walls, tiles or whatever, have fallen off repeatedly over the weeks and months. The intense moisture and humidity in the bathroom just doesn’t allow them to stick. I don’t want a mirror falling off and shattering everywhere in the shower. Anyway, so would a plumber be able to install this mirror in a way that’s more permanent? The same way the glass shelves will be installed to the tiles, etc? Thanks! How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! There's no use being a damn fool about it. W.C. Fields Brought Established. Re: More shower questions… 4Oct 02, 2008 7:50 pm Hi Grace,
Please forgive me if I stuff this reply up but this is the first time I have ever gone into a site such as this. I only found this site by accident this afternoon and had no idea that this type of interactive thing (whatever it's called) existed. No to answer your question about the mirror, this may not be so practical as the steam from the water will fog up the mirror. I have seen mirrors that attach to the water outlet and have a small stream of water running behind the mirror to prevent it fogging up. I'm sorry but I can't remember where or when but I think they are still available - Try a large hardware retailer - they may be able to help. If you want to place a mirror on the tiled wall of the shower, best to place it in a position where you can splash water on it to stop the fogging thing and use a non-acetic cure (natural cure) silicon to hold it to the tiles and double sided tape to hold the mirror in position while the silicon sets. Four dabs, and perhaps a seal around the perimeter should do. Good luck Re: More shower questions… 5Oct 02, 2008 8:03 pm Helyn If you don't want to DIY, sounds a job for a tiler, its not a plumbing job. I disagree. I am a small builder and plumbers normally fit the fittings, fixtures and sanitaryware in bathrooms, kitchens and laundries. But...I don't want to pay them as they can charge around $80-100 an hour, so we do them ourselves for the client. If you have any questions, just ask me! Personally, considering your layout (study/work desks in bedrooms), I don't think you have any other option but to leave NW windows and make them as big as possible e.g.… 7 10455 We had this happen to us last year and got charged a variation.
