Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 01, 2008 2:05 pm Has anyone had the counter top replaced in a bathroom vanity? Right now it’s that stuff, I can’t remember what it’s called, but it’s just plain and boring, very pale pink. I want a more sort of classy, sophisticated darker shade and nicer slightly shiny finish. It’s a totally small area…what’s the cheapest bench top stuff that you can get for this? (I’d love a medium brownish glossy top with those little specks, you know?) How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: How much for replacement vanity top? (small) 2Oct 01, 2008 2:19 pm You have me totally bamboozled with those descriptions grace is the pink stuff porcelein and is brownish stuff with little specks something new to mankind more info for the blonde please Re: How much for replacement vanity top? (small) 3Oct 02, 2008 10:35 am Lol, sorry! You know in some bench tops in the kitchen or wherever, there’s a slight sparkly aspect to the surface? Sort of like little specks? Meh. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: How much for replacement vanity top? (small) 5Oct 13, 2008 8:43 am Hi there, saw your post and had to register so that I can join in - so where DO we get new vanity tops? I am after a 900mm, preferably timber but will settle for poly as long as it is not white. I have found one place only (in Sydney) but there must be others. Where do I start to look? Cheers Re: How much for replacement vanity top? (small) 6Oct 13, 2008 12:13 pm It can be difficult to replace just the top of a vanity, as you have to remember that the top has been stuck to the cabinet with the intention that it will stay like that. The changes are that when you remove the top, you will chip or tear the surrounding laminate of the cabinet.
I assume the top you are refering to is a caesarstone or some other artifical stone, as these can come with flecks of "shiny stuff" through it. Otherwise you can get laminate that resemble this too. You would have to get a top made if you decided to do this, as far as I know you cant just buy them. Either a cabinet maker or a stone mason, depending on what way you go. Just be warned though, its probably cheaper to jsut replace the whole thing. Built with Bentley homes in Doreen All moved in Dec 2009 Now for the garden! Our stuff so far viewtopic.php?f=31&t=16532 Re: How much for replacement vanity top? (small) 7Oct 21, 2008 5:09 pm Well, I think I know what you mean because I am lumbered with similar stuff throughout my 70's home. I think mine is a laminex and it is white but with strange silver specks throughout. Horrible!
I have a cabinetmaker coming in this week because I really don't want to replace the vanity which I like as is. Maybe not cost effective but it happens to be the shape and configuration etc that I want. I am HOPING that the cabinetmaker can just stick another sheet of top surface over this existing stuff. Now. . . I know I am probably over simplifying it and there may be very good reasons why this isn't do-able. On the other hand, I have other items and projects in the past where the tradesmen have looked at me with utter amazement if not contempt (!) at what I want done and have assured me that, no, it isn't possible but when I ask them why they can't really give any reason other than "it isn't how it's usually done." or that they have never heard of anyone doing that. Neither of which comments have ever stopped me having a crack at things! Sometimes it has bombed out but more often than not it has actually worked. What's wrong with acting like an ostrich and burying your head in the sand sometimes? Some days it can stop you from having to look at the lemmings! Last year I had a gas leak at my house. 3 days later, I have about 1 sqm of my exposed aggregate paving broken up. I am not sure how to go about getting it repaired… 0 10404 Just be careful with building stability during construction, that is when the structure may be weakened, refer to your engineering drawings for stability methodology. 1 7215 Can anyone recommend a good/affordable retaining wall and fence builder that I can get a quote from located in Sydney? 8 45706 |
