Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 01, 2008 7:16 am We have just started renovatng our bathroom and the strip-out has been completed. We were planning to change the position of everything but now that we can see the bathroom empty, we have realised that the new plan is impractical. If you have a look at the plan, you can see that the toilet is sitting in the middle of the wall. Where do we put the damn toilet roll holder? I have used bathroms where the holder is behind you which I find difficult. The only other option would be to put it on the side of the bath where it will probably get wet.
So this one little detail means that we will probably stick with the current layout with the bath on the right wall and the toilet in the top left corner. That's not a big deal but the new layout used the floor space more effectively. However this leads to another problem. The old bathroom had a brick shower enclosure and the bath ran right up to it so it looked sensible. We will now have a glass shower screen and we have to decide how to make this all fit. Should we have the bath running right up to the shower screen? This would look a little odd to me. The tiler has suggested leaving a small gap but that seems messy and difficult to clean. I know it's not ideal but without changing things around, I am thinking it is the only option. Re: New layout ruined by toilet roll holder 3Oct 01, 2008 6:20 pm How about instead of making the shower all glass, what about making the wall beside the toilet a half wall (framed with tiles, with glass above it. That way you wont feel closed in but you would be able to hang the dunny roll off the half wall.
Or another suggestion.. maybe talk to a plumbing shop and see if there is a fitting you can use to go through the glass beside the toilet. I know they put door knobs through the gless.. why not a dunny roll.. Built a modified "Daydream 279" .. Cor@l Homes on a flat 4473m block!! And lov'n it!!! Re: New layout ruined by toilet roll holder 4Oct 01, 2008 6:33 pm I think that layout is fine, it's the same layout that we have in this flat and the toilet roll on the back wall is fine, well it never occurred to me before now that it was in a bad position. Re: New layout ruined by toilet roll holder 5Oct 02, 2008 11:05 am Hey there,
You can buy toilet roll stands which you can just sit beside the toilet, not sure if this would look good but I have had them before and you can get some really nice ones. It's an option If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Then quit. There's no use being a damn fool about it. W.C. Fields Brought Established. Re: New layout ruined by toilet roll holder 6Oct 02, 2008 9:04 pm When you order the shower screen, you can have a hole in the glass where a toilet roll holder can be fixed - could cost a bit more than a normal screen. Alternatively, you might think about a covered toilet roll holder attached to the side of the bath tiles? Re: New layout ruined by toilet roll holder 7Oct 02, 2008 9:08 pm I agree with buildingcheck - a covered toilet roll holder on the side of the bath might be a good answer?
Personally I think a toilet roll on the back wall *looks* ok, but I hate having to twist right around to get at it! Re: New layout ruined by toilet roll holder 8Oct 02, 2008 10:47 pm I'd put it on the glass.
and really does it need to be drilled and bolted - asking for breakage when someone falls or leans on it . Just get a nice one and have it glued on - and it will then come off if leant on to much, as opposed to breaking the glass. steve Re: New layout ruined by toilet roll holder 9Oct 02, 2008 11:04 pm Wingies Hey there, You can buy toilet roll stands which you can just sit beside the toilet, not sure if this would look good but I have had them before and you can get some really nice ones. Do you have a lot of ppl visiting that might fall off the toilet onto the toilet roll holder. You must serve some great vino . Re: New layout ruined by toilet roll holder 11Oct 03, 2008 6:32 am Use a toughened glass shower screen - not much chance of breakage. Re: New layout ruined by toilet roll holder 12Oct 05, 2008 8:17 am Thanks for your replies. In the end the decision was made for us. When the plumber went under the house, he discovered that the toilet pipes were encased by a seperate brick wall. Bizarre. So it quickly became all too hard to change things so we'll keep it as it is.
Lesson learnt: make sure the plumber goes under the house before quoting on the job. Re: New layout ruined by toilet roll holder 13Dec 09, 2015 4:00 pm Just stick it on the glass.
