Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Sep 28, 2008 6:32 pm Hi everyone, we have recently bought a bit of a renovator. We've been doing other reno's of late and are putting off doing the bathroom. You can see why...
Any idea's on where to start, we want to demolish the whole thing and start again. I have been told by a builder friend that to save on cost we could redo the floor of the bathroom\toilet with form ply? The bathroom would be approx 2x4m, we would be combining the bathroom and toilet together to maximise space. At the moment they are seperate... Give me your idea's, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where do i start?? 3Sep 28, 2008 6:53 pm Hi Happyhome, yes it is the only bathroom/toilet in the house. It is a weatherboard home built in 1925, the bathroom and toilet are additions to a covered in back verandah. A house that does not have one worn, comfy chair in it is soulless. ~May Sarton Re: Help me!!! Where do i start?? 4Sep 28, 2008 8:51 pm I've got no idea really but when I first looked at your pictures I imagined the shower taking up the back wall where the window is with a 3/4 glass wall and a vanity on the wall to the right .
When I read that it is your only bathroom, I changed my mind and immediately thought I'd move the loo to the far wall away from your living space. (Thinking of awkward smells and noises that people may not want to share when using the loo.) Re: Help me!!! Where do i start?? 5Oct 01, 2008 6:55 am I know you are probably more interested in layout advice but the advice we were given was to start by selecting your tiles which ended up making sense. Then we did a plan and then we hunted for fittings to fit the plan. Re: Help me!!! Where do i start?? 6Oct 01, 2008 7:05 am These should get you going :

Where do i start?? 7Oct 02, 2008 8:03 pm Not sure by the pics, but in 1925 they used asbestos in bathroom areas. Just be careful if you have to cut the stuff. Re: Help me!!! Where do i start?? 9Oct 31, 2008 10:36 am What's behind the toilet wall? From the look of it the toilet isn't as wide as the bathroom, so you would end up with an L shaped room, which really doesn't work. If you could remove that wall as well and make the room rectangle, then that would be better.
Also, realise that by combining the toilet into the room, you may not actually get a more usable space. Sometimes all you are doing is taking away handy corners. Seperate toilets are really handy, particularly being the only bathroom in the house. Do you want to include a bath? This will impact on how you need to lay out the room. If you are looking at having just a shower, I would put the shower across the bak wall, with the vanity to the left of the door. I would personally keep the toilet seperate. Where do i start?? 10Oct 31, 2008 11:04 am I agree with Lostris - always prefer a separate toilet.
Do you have a rough floor plan sketch? Even with the photos it is hard to work out how you get a 4x2m room out of combining the two! Re: Help me!!! Where do i start?? 11Oct 31, 2008 12:19 pm if you can keep the toilet there and add another one in the bathroom that would be great (if possible).. nothing worse than someone needing to use the toilet when you are having a relaxing hot shower or bath.
