Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Nov 30, 2019 9:40 am Hi, Ive just had my shower and bathroom retiled. I have witnessed my tiler tile over the waterproofing membrane for the shower walls after 8 hours rather than the 48 (or possibly 24 if he used the quick set stuff which i dont think he did). I also know he didn't waterproofing 100mm outside the stepdown as it specifies in Australian standards. My bathroom is on the 2nd story and he also didn't waterproofing the bathroom floor at all which it also says in the Australian standards. I didn't know this at the time and he told me it wasn't necessary. He also didn't do a puddle test or a moisture test. He has admitted all this to me and pretty much says the Australian standards are overboard and the bathroom will be fine as he has never had one fail before. Im trying to find a solution as I dont really want to deal with having this whole thing redone and a dispute with the tiler. My question is, does the whole thing need to be redone to ba certain its ok? He suggested he could epoxy the bathroom floor as an alternative/ solution to the lack of waterproofing, would this be enough. My inclination is to just get away from this guy and have it redone properly but I honestly was hoping there is some other way I could meet tje Australian standards without ripping it all up. And help or advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks and sorry for the massive post. Re: Issues with tiler, Questions. 3Nov 30, 2019 11:49 pm Berek Yep there’s a whole lot wrong with it by the sounds. Has he finished? Did he provide a certificate? Did you check he has insurance? Did you take photos as evidence? Yes he had finished. Some pictures were taken but probably wont be able to show any of my issues. I have only paid a 20% deposit, he says he will give me a certificate once i pay the full amount. A warrenty doesn't mean alot to me because I have issues in the past with builders not honoring them. So i will not rely on that. What im hoping to know is does the whole thing need to be ripped up? Or is there another solution? Or am i being totally unreasonable abd should i just be happy because it looks great. What are the chances im going to have issues down the track if i just leave it as is? Re: Issues with tiler, Questions. 4Dec 02, 2019 10:37 am If you are a competent builder you would tell the tiler before he starts that once waterproof membrane is finished it must be inspected by you and water tested and approved by you before tiling or no payment.
