Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jul 07, 2019 4:37 pm Hi everyone Im looking for some advice regarding having 2 entry points for a bathroom downstairs. this would be the only bathroom downstairs and comes with sliding door entry to the guest room and also from the main corridor. Would you get rid of the direct access from the guestroom and only have one door coming from the outside?? the bathroom is still pretty close to the guest bathroom via the outside entry. I've attached the plan below Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: 2 entry point for bathroom? 6Jul 19, 2019 8:31 pm Whoops. Still going. Not sure if you lost the first bit, but basically, move the robe to along the bathroom wall, and the bedroom door and bathroom can now all be shuffled along to the left where the wardrobe was. The bathroom can now be longer and skinnier with the shower right across the far wall and toilet and longer vanity on the right. (As you go in) So as the bathroom is now skinnier when you add the now longer wardrobe along the bathroom wall, the guest room is not really any smaller. Got that? Re: 2 entry point for bathroom? 7Jul 20, 2019 12:46 pm Just a few extra details of some assumptions. As you go into the bathroom the vanity would be on the right opposite the door swing. The narrower the vanity is, the narrower the bathroom can be. Although the bathroom is now narrower the layout is better and you bonus a big shower and long vanity. (But very little, if anything, is lost from the guest room) You also bonus a much longer wardrobe- if you don’t want the extra storage, you can always start with a desk, dressing table or shelves along this wall. If you are super keen on having a true ensuite, you can add a door at the start of the entry alcove. This would remain open against the left wall all the time unless you have a guest who might choose to shut it during the night- thus giving them private and direct bathroom access. I think this is a win win alteration. Good luck with it all. Re: 2 entry point for bathroom? 10Jul 20, 2019 5:00 pm Spot on. Sorry I wasn’t clever enough to draw it- would have saved a lot of typing on my phone that kept getting lost! One difference in your drawing- I was thinking the robe would go all the way along that wall. (Without the shower jutting into it) The shower will still be really big (at least 1200mm long) if the bathroom wall continues straight the whole way. As the robe is so long, that’s why I suggested a desk or dressing table or bench at the start. (Door end) But I love storage so I’d be thrilled to have a cupboard that big. I’d maybe have two doors in the robe that opened fully to a bench with my sewing machine on it. Plus you can add a door in the entry alcove, opposite the bedroom door, if you want the option of a guest to use the bathroom privately. Glad you understood my ideas- i think it all works really well. Re: 2 entry point for bathroom? 12Jul 21, 2019 9:32 am Still more to further explain what I meant about the bench in the robe... I’m guessing the robe is about 2800 long, so you would have 4 x 700 cupboard doors. The middle two could swing out to open flat against the outside two. This would give you a 1400 nook to build in a desk with drawers and filing to one side and shelves and cupboards above. You could even have a pull out desk top to give you a deeper desk when you’re using it, or make the robe a little deeper if you wanted to make the nook nicer. By having a study nook you can make the room more flexible- it can be a study and a guest room rather than one or the other. If you had a sofa bed instead of a regular bed then it’s also a sitting room/ retreat room. Have fun with it all. Re: 2 entry point for bathroom? 13Jul 21, 2019 9:45 am And by pullout desk, I was thinking you could have a regular desk on wheels fitting just underneath your built in bench. (Ikea sell separate desk tops, legs and wheels that would do the job nicely) When using your desk you could sit at it as is, pull it out to make it deeper or pull it right out to be an L shape or somewhere else in the room. You could put a printer on the bench, on a shelf under the bench, (the pull out desk would fit around it) or on a shelf above. Or if you don’t use it very often it could go in one of the other cupboards in the robe. I like the flexibility of a hidden nook, but once it’s open it will give you a great study (or sewing!) area. Re: 2 entry point for bathroom? 14Jul 30, 2019 8:34 pm I also have 2 doors. I just blocked one by drawers on both sides. It's cheep and conveniet option, since you can have this dooor if you decide to redecorate your bathroom. I advise not to get rid of it, it won't be a problem if you block it Black on light wood does look good.
