Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jun 03, 2018 10:23 pm Hi all, This is my first post on this kind of forum - I'm the definition of newbie when it comes to this sort of thing. Just got a quick question and would be so grateful if anyone was able to help me out. My partner just bought an IKEA mirror with built in lighting. I assumed there might be some kind of power cord coming out of it or an input for a generic kettle cord or something... but by the looks of it, it's designed to be connected to the house main electrical wires through a wall. We're in a rental and would rather not do that, but I had the idea that it might be possible to strip a regular extension cord and plug that in instead. Problem is, the mirror only takes two wires and an extension cord of course has three, including the ground wire. If I just plugged in two and left the earth wire to hang, would that be a serious no-no? Can't find specific information on this on the internet. Aside from that, are there any other DIY options before I return the mirror? Thanks, Michael Re: Using extension cord to power IKEA mirror with lights 2Jun 03, 2018 10:27 pm mjelinekperth If I just plugged in two and left the earth wire to hang, would that be a serious no-no? No offence Michael, but if you are asking the question you should probably be employing an electrician (which strictly speaking, you are required by law anyway). DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Ditto 3M Claw, expensive but best thing I've used to date. I put two of the 11kg ones in for a 12kg mirror on the wall, and its been great for 4 years now. 4 2159 Broker here - legislation says that every true broker must put the clients best interests before theirs so in theory they must offer you the best options for you on their… 2 46019 0 2024 |
