Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 07, 2017 8:12 am I don't like panels, either;) I want something like the inside of my bathtub on the walls, like paint. Can anyone recommend something to paint the walls with something that is equally waterproof as tiles? How about epoxy or something similar coating? I want to use it in all of the bathroom and in the shower zone. I can't imagine anything more durable than something like a plastic layer coating on the walls? Re: I hate tiles 2May 07, 2017 8:18 am I must say I don't quite understand your opposition to tiles, but it is your home so your choice. Tiles themselves are not waterproof. It's the waterproof membrane behind them that does that. You could perhaps look at an acrylic solid surface like Staron or Hi-Macs, but it ain't cheap. Perhaps a vinyl product (typically used in commercial applications such as ensuite walls in aged care and hospitals). Or I suppose you could go for an applied finish like a render or plaster. If you try and paint over the waterproofing membrane it will look very poor as you will see the membrane texture. You can get solid surface in 6mm, which is slightly cheaper then 12mm (standard thickness) solid surface. Make sure you get acrylic based solid surface that is UV stable. The acrylic doesn't mean that plastic sheet, solid surface still feels like stone, but the acrylic based means it's UV stable and won't discolour. Brands like Hi-Mac, Corian etc, are UV stable.
