Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 13, 2008 11:51 am Hi,
This morning when I got out of the shower I noticed that the carpet adjoining the bathroom is a bit black and damp. Looking closer I also noticed that one side, of the bathroom door post is looking a little bit darker under the paint. The bathroom is completely tiled. Tracing backwards I have noticed that there is a hair line crack in a couple of tiles in the shower. I am now assuming this is the cause. Any advice on how to go about fixing this? I am assuming replacing the tiles in the shower? Additionally, are these sort of incidents covered under house insurance normally? We have insurance so I will have to check. Cheers Rob Re: Another Leaky Shower 2Aug 13, 2008 11:57 am My brothers rental has just suffered the same and the owners are attempting to get it resolved through their insurance so I think there is some hope there. Just dont let it go as far as my brother did, a section of the floor fell through to the dirt below! Re: Another Leaky Shower 3Aug 13, 2008 11:59 am Sorry to tell you, but the cracks between the tiles will only be the start of the problem.
The wall behind should be waterproofed and this has probably failed. Hopefully the inner wall has not rotted out, so you can let it dry out and fix it up. If it's rotten, you'll need to replace what's missing, re-seal, re-tile. Hopefully it's not all bad news, but prepare for the worst. Welcome by the way Re: Another Leaky Shower 4Aug 13, 2008 7:20 pm Hi,
I just had a chat with my insurance company and the result isnt that great They cover me for upto $1000 in finding the leak. They will also repair any damage the water leak has caused ie. the carpet, and door frame. But they will not cover fixing the leak. So if it is the shower membrane that has gone, it could get a little costly for me.... Well the bathroom renovations may have to come earlier than planned.... I wonder if my insurance policy is typical of Australian insurance policies? Rob Hi, Apologies - I know there is plenty out there on this but struggling to put together the puzzle.
