Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 15, 2016 7:38 pm Hi Guys, Hoping someone could answer my question or concern Recently did a bathroom renovation and had the frameless shower screen put in on Friday and the installer found it strange there was no waterstop angle in the tiles that he could see. I told him they put a metal strip in the screed and obviously the tiling and screed went above it. He then asked if they waterproofed the whole floor to which I replied "Yes". He didn't think it would be such an issue given they did as waterstop angles are designed to separate the wet area from the rest of the bathroom. But perhaps he was saying that to put my worried face/mind at ease. Is it possible water can travel through the screed (which is supposed to carry a lot of water) and become an issue down the track. How important is this waterstop angle? I don't see any issues with the fall of the shower. It seems to drain well with no pooling issues. As mentioned earlier, the waterproofing covered the whole bathroom floor. Help! Re: Waterstop Angle in Bathroom Screed?? 2Aug 15, 2016 7:52 pm It can be a problem if the water stop doesnt extend higher than the sceed. Water can track under the tiles to the outside of the shower. Ideally the angle, either plastic or waterstop should extend to the top of the tiles then the frameless screen sit on top. Re: Waterstop Angle in Bathroom Screed?? 3Aug 15, 2016 7:57 pm Thanks mgilla for the quick response. The Vanity is wall hung and there is a waterstop at the door. Where would the water track to? Just sit in the screed? Does this cause damage anywhere? What I am curious about is these bathrooms that have wet areas and you see water escape through not having an enclosed screen? Hmmmm.... Levelling compound also works well for this, you can feather it and it doesn’t self level at this low thickness , you can build up in layers if need be. 2 5686 Before you rip it up, if you can in the grout lines, drill some holes and pour/inject techgrip by sika.
