Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jul 05, 2016 12:23 am We are building a second stores addition and really it has been one drama after the next with the whole build. The latest problem is the plumbing went in for the bathrooms last week. We are having 3 wall hung vanities-main bathroom, ensuite and a small one in a separate toilet. we discovered today that all the plumbing is through the floor and that we will have exposed pipes. The builder said its because there are beams in the road. I'm quite flabbergasted. I really don't understand how when we are building these rooms from scratch and we can't get the plumbing where we want, but people renovating all sorts of existing bathrooms can manage to have wall hung vanities without exposed pipes. I'm so upset and disappointed. Everything about these bathrooms has been a disaster from the beginning. I hate them already and we only have the gyprock (and the stupid plumbing) in! I just don't know what to do. I'm going to hate it every time I see it. Re: Exposed plumbing in wall hung vanitie 2Jul 06, 2016 8:19 am If there is a beam in the way, the waste pipe would have to come out from the wall. What can be done done in this situation is have the pipe as close to wall as possible and install a hebel block out from the wall and tile over ( the drainage pipe will be concealed in the block then). It does not look that bad, at least better than seeing the pipe. Are the water pipes exposed too? We often drill through structural timber beams especially when the waste for vanities are usually only 50mm wide, it's never a problem if done correctly to code. If there is a steel beam there that's a bit trickier, but should have been considered in the design stage anyway. If you stipulated wall hung vanities prior and it's shown on plan I'd be getting the builder and plumbers back to come up with a solution. Good luck, I hope u can stay positive and get a good result! Re: Exposed plumbing in wall hung vanitie 5Jul 20, 2016 4:25 pm The builders are refusing to do anything except at my cost. The builder had been assuring me it would all work out. They will put chrome sleeves over the plumbing. Well the vanities went in yesterday abd the sleeves are plastic and not even lined up properly. I really am beyond upset. Re: Exposed plumbing in wall hung vanitie 6Jul 20, 2016 4:43 pm Communication and planning has been a serious and ongoing problem from the very beginning. They always just say "get what you want and we will make it work". But the whole thing has been a nightmare from the very beginning. The builder rang us out of the blue and after not hearing from him for 4 months and says he is starting work the following week. And I was the worst person in the world when I said that wasn't suitable as we had to change our hot water over first and clear out the rooms they were demolishing. The architect they used had every single measurement wrong-with us losing 700mm off the bathrooms let alone every other length in the rooms being out by 200-300mm. The plumber just turned up with no notice and tells me he needs all the tapeware and vanities-they were still at the bathroom place as we had nowhere to store them. So I had to pay extra to get immediate delivery. Same with the electrician-just turns up and tells us he needs everything. I wish we never signed up with Ausbuilt.
