I wouldn't have thought that U.V. radiation was very warm, but I could be very wrong; U.V. lighting is used to burn skin in salon tanning...also usefull for helping plants photosynthesize. Or are they heat lamps, like in an IXL ""Tastic" which produce heat through high Infra Red output? Infra Red radiation can of course also burn you but is far less dangerous in terms of cancer risk - I wouldn't have considered it to be any more dangerous than other radiant heat devices such as column heaters, stoves, fires et cetera. Of course if anyone has better knowledge please correct me. Cheers, Earl Re: Cancer-causing ceiling heaters? 6Jul 31, 2008 10:28 am Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅
Derisory howl...well, Loki had a laugh anyway... You are completely correct, the light from your lamps is white-ish. Infra Red light is not visible to the human eye, but is the part of the light spectrum that warms things up. You might be familiar with night vision filming using infra red sensitive cameras; these produce those crazy blobby shapes in the weird colours - did anyone say "Predator?" Our sun produces radiation across the spectrum including U.V. and I.R. (which are at opposite ends). Artificial Lighting will have greater or lesser emissions of I.R. depending on the type of light. Fluorescent lights have low I.R. which is why they are often referred to as "cold" lamps, while incandescent bulbs, such as those in the Tastic are engineered to emmit lots of I.R. As said before, I would have considered I.R. relatively harmless, but if you do some more searching on I.R. you will probably find out more than I know. Not bad, Al, not bad at all! 6/10 *bows* And don't forget all those nasty infrareds that spray out of your TV remote. Only one needs to turn the channel over, what happens to the rest? Re: Cancer-causing ceiling heaters? 8Jul 31, 2008 11:01 am I was thinking infra-red might be like a photographer's dark-room lamp which is red.
Seems from my research that far from causing cancer, my infra red tastic could cure cancer! Darkroom lights don't use infra-red lights.....and the red light is only for black and white papers. Black and white print papers is sensitive to blue light, or to blue and green light. So you can use a red light because the paper is not sensitive to it. Color paper is sensitive to all light therefore you need to work in complete darkness, and irrespective of B&W or color film development is done in complete darkness. And IXL's are simply heat lamps as Strumer said.....not more dangerous than a radiant heater. Strumer neri gulp!
