Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 12, 2016 10:51 am Hello I have moved in with my girlfriend who's house is about 3 years old She has the shower handle type which is one shower handle that swivels from left to right for hold and cold Issue we have had for a while now is, you put it hot, and then overtime it goes really cold by itself then you put turn it a fraction to hot, and then its blasts out steaming hot scalding water! Its so sensitive and you can never get the temperature right! its solar hot water, and a friend said to call them water people who installed it as it should be under warranty Is there anything I can try out myself or anyone know what it might be? Re: issue with shower water temp 2May 12, 2016 11:20 am Has it always done this ? Might be a blockage somewhere. Is the back-up switch on ? Should be in garage or laundry somewhere. It might have been turned off accidentally. Just looks like a normal wall/light switch. Could affect your hot water. I just checked around, I went to the hot water tank, - its a solar power one but couldnt find any backup switch is that where your saying the switch should be? on the tank itself or controls of it? It sounds like a faulty shower tap or a faulty TMV (thermostatic mixing valve). Re: issue with shower water temp 8May 16, 2016 7:00 pm You must have a backup/support switch that kicks in when the sun isn't doing too well. Mine is in the garage. But - it will be in the house somewhere. Your job is to find it. Laundry ? Kitchen ? It will look like a normal switch - but one you never use ... It will probably NOT be outside. If you know who built the house or who put the solar HW system in - they should know. I'm not saying this is the problem. BUT - if it is off - and the weather has been overcast -then the hot water can run down - and come through in fits and starts. B'Loo could well be right though ... Regardless - you should know where the switch is. Re: issue with shower water temp 9May 16, 2016 7:53 pm If you have the same issue with other taps in the house, then i would think its probably a faulty tempering valve (although they should default to full cold when they fail) or the more likely scenario is that your shower mixer has a blocked/faulty cartridge. Depending on how handy you are, you could pull the handle off and remove the cartridge to try and clean it out or replace it...better still, if its still under warranty then organise a service call to get it fixed. Like a power point switch? is that what it "should" look like You can probably tell I am not a handy man lol but I try to learn and do stuff myself first Ill check around the house if not I will do what is suggested next, take off the shower handle and check if the cartridge is dirty We only really ever notice is in the main ensuite shower - when using the sink it remains stable temp, but also we dont really use the 2nd shower Re: issue with shower water temp 11May 18, 2016 2:16 pm I'd be checking the "rose" and "cartridge". Some of them have quite a few years warranty. But there may be something blocking. Yes - ours is just a normal switch. When you find it your partner will say - oh - that - yes I often wondered what it was ... If it is only one outlet the odds are its a blockage of some sort. Re: issue with shower water temp 12May 18, 2016 7:50 pm Drekko Hello Issue we have had for a while now is, you put it hot, and then overtime it goes really cold by itself then you put turn it a fraction to hot, and then its blasts out steaming hot scalding water! If the water in a shower gets scalding hot then the install is either incorrect or the tempering valve is faulty. Even if the tapware at the shower is faulty you should not get scalding water unless the tempering valve on the heater was either not installed or not working properly. Trouble is it varies during the shower - if I'm getting it right - it can be hot then cool then hot again. Agree on setting though - if it is scalding. Maybe someone's played around with the control nut. Maybe you need an "expert" ... thanks Chippy, i hope they have applied sealer but i am doubt to be honest, so i am gonna do this job after handover. 8 16283 If you have a floor waste, turn on your sink and put your ear down to the central floor waste and listen.
