Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 09, 2016 2:18 pm Does anyone know the building standard about the type of flooring required in wet areas? We love a double story floor plan and it has the powder room and laundry located on the ground floor where we may potentially have floorboards. I want to avoid having joins but it seems that all wet areas are required to have tiles? Do I have any hope of not having to have tiles in these rooms? If we did have to have tiles for whatever reason, would it be "legal" to rip them up and lay floorboards afterwards? Even on a concrete slab? I thought it was only the shower recesses that had to have waterproof membrane behind tiling? I also have no idea about building codes though.... When a bathroom is done properly the full shower recess and all room corners should be done. The door way will have an alumimum angle across it and that will be water proofed as well. You have to contain the water should you have a leak.
