Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 16, 2016 7:34 pm Hi guys, I'm hoping someone here could help answer a question on the position of shower mixers. On our signed plan we have the mixers in our ensuite positioned as per below image (so your arm isn't under the water when you turn it on). Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ However, the builder has now placed it on the other walls, stating that we can't have it how we want it due to BCA code. Apparently where we want it would mean the door would be open while you turn on the water which is against the code. Doesn't make sense to me but thought I'd check to see if anyone knows if the builder is telling the truth or not. Thanks! Our bathroom (5 years old) has a walk in shower and the mixer is next to the door so you can adjust the shower while outside the shower. In my experience when a builder stuffs up they say "Its because of the code." so I always ask them to "Show me the place in the Code". . . . it's funny they never seem to have been able to do that! Re: Position of shower mixer 3Feb 16, 2016 8:29 pm Thanks Bashworth. I tried googling too but couldn't find anything. We also questioned why it wasn't mentioned when we signed the contract and the builder blamed it on the sales guy, saying it was an oversight. It just doesn't make sense why they think the door will be open when you turn on the taps if it's on that wall versus on a different wall. We think they're just using the code to cover their mistake too. Our First Build viewtopic.php?t=79716 Re: Position of shower mixer 4Feb 17, 2016 6:24 am bashworth Sounds a bit like bulldust to me. I second that! They telling you BS....... If it was true they should have picked it up during design stage and not building stage. @ Orph build thread: viewtopic.php?t=78328 Dream Metricon Glendale 38 (Sydney)! Of course, more BS. When we asked for an explanation as to why it's not a good option, builder just said we will rectify it to match the plan. Our First Build viewtopic.php?t=79716 I wanted the same thing for the same reason... I was told that the mixer should be 1150mm (I think) from the floor and if the mixer is going to be below the niche then it will be 1100mm (50mm off) hence they didn't put the mixer below niche... I thought it was BS too... And I didn't persist to change because of a slight delay it might cause to get the plumber again to fix it up. Re: Position of shower mixer 8Feb 21, 2016 10:09 am Yeh it's total BS. My partner said he actually mentioned it to the builder back in Nov and they said they will fix it. I didn't realise it was already an issue back then. Same mistake, different excuse. But when we wanted to know why the plumber said it's not a good option, they said fine, they'll fix it without an explanation. They're hoping we would leave it to avoid further delays too, but we don't mind. We're both not renting so have no deadline to move in. Our First Build viewtopic.php?t=79716 I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says.
