Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jan 07, 2016 7:38 am Do people think going 600x600 tiles is a better choice than 450x450. Does it make a big difference to the look of the house. This is for floors and floor to ceiling tiling in the bathrooms. Thinking of going dark tiles in the ensuite. Re: Tiling question.. 3Jan 07, 2016 12:55 pm Hi Ashie87, I work for Tiles88, so I can give you some "professional" advice.... you basically get 2 types of tiles: Rectified and non rectified. A rectified tile has square edges and you can have smaller grout gaps. A non rectified has rounded edges and you have to have larger gaps (4mm +).... Rectified tiles cost more to lay opposed to the non rectified. I have seen many bathrooms with larger format tiles and to be honest they look great. BUT you need to find a tiler that has experience and is confident to do that size in a bathroom. Generally speaking 300 x 600 or 300 x 300 is the way to go... If you are trying to decide between 600 x 600 and 450 x 450... I am 90% confident that the 450x 450 will be non rectified and you wont find a "rectangle" tile to match the wall. with a 600 x 600 it could be rectified or non rectified and you will find a 300 x 600 for the walls to match the grout lines... I hope that helps a little. Here are some pic of 600 x 600 AND 300 x 600 in bathrooms this is 600x 600 on the wall and floor this is 300 x 600 on the wall and floor 300 x 600 on the wall and floor ... dark tiles Our Easystart Build in Annie's Landing https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81061&p=1478674#p1478674 Re: Tiling question.. 4Jan 07, 2016 3:29 pm Some builders won't let you put large tiles on walls. I was restricted in my laundry to 450x450. My builder was also going to charge extra to lay 600x600 tiles to the main floor. We ended up stripping it from the contract as the tile we had our heart set on was a 450x900! I love large tiles but that said, everyone has their own preference. My husband for example likes the look of a 600x300 over a 600x600. Also remember in wet areas builders can be reluctant to lay a large tile even on the floor due to issues in getting required fall to drains. It can be done but I think sometimes it is harder work and you may be left with lots of cuts around the drain. I fell in love with an Italian marble tile and had To have them. Our builder Is charging us a bomb, and we need to have a grate installed. We are getting a private tiler to Meet the builders tiler onsite to make sure they know where to lay the tiles etc. then our Tiler will do full height after handover. Just check with your builder about the cost because it is 60% more than what you'll think it is. Mon Looking to tile the facade pillars rather than rendering. Builder is quoting 2500$ laying cost for upto 10msq. The 2 pillars come to be 16msq. So laying costs are 5000$… 0 7546 Hi, I'm clearing the tiles from our horrid 50 year old bathroom and preparing to lay new ones. Bugger of a job getting the old… 0 8088 4 14463 |
