Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 06, 2015 1:06 pm Hi all, I'm not sure if I'm using all of the right tiling terminology, but I'll give it a go. I've chosen 600mm x 600mm porcelain floor and wall tiles for my new bathroom. The tiles will be laid in a stacked bond pattern (as opposed to brick bond). On certain walls, particularly in the shower recesses, the wall tiles will be full height (i.e. up to the ceiling). Does anyone know if the wall tile which must be cut to size/fit (i.e. the one which isn't full-size) should be at the top or the bottom of the wall? This bathroom appears to be the perfect height for the tiles, so no cutting was necessary: http://www.houzz.com.au/photos/19792548 ... ther-metro In this bathroom, the tile which has been cut to size was placed at the top of the wall: http://www.houzz.com.au/photos/16489599 ... m-brisbane In this bathroom, it looks like maybe the top and bottom tiles each had the same amount cut from them so that they were equal (or maybe the bathroom was simply the perfect height for the tiles): http://www.houzz.com.au/photos/13047518 ... ther-metro If I hadn't given it any thought, I would have assumed that the tile which was cut to size/fit would have been placed at the bottom where it wouldn't be as obvious/visible. But, I have no idea what is standard and/or what is the most visually appealing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Re: Stacked Bond Square Wall Tile Layout Question 2Oct 06, 2015 3:48 pm Usually you can speak to the SS to ensure you meet the tiler (which I think is a pretty standard process anyway) and you can request which ever you prefer. How much will they have to cut your tile down by? Also how high are your ceilings? Therefore it may not be possible to start with a full tile at the floor as the first row of tiles may need to be cut to suit the floor. If you get the chance, discuss this with your tiler. Possibly both depending on the sizing. Idea of working from the centre is that you dont have a 20mm thin tile at one end and a 400mm at the other end. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6138 |
