Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Sep 20, 2015 6:48 pm We are owner-building in NSW and I have the understanding that we need a certified waterproofer to waterproof our bathroom. But when I was asked where I got this information from, I just don't know. I have gone through my notes and spent some time googling, but having difficulty finding an OFFICIAL document which states the above. Any help? Re: NSW Waterproofing Rules 2Sep 20, 2015 7:06 pm Hi Keffufel, I don't know where you can get the applicable reg but Stewie D on this forum might be able to help you; I suggest you PM him. He is the one who told me that waterproofing needs to be done by a licenced practitioner in NSW and a certificate needs to be issued for it. See this thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=74972&p=1281962&hilit=waterproofing+certificate+nsw#p1281962 Re: NSW Waterproofing Rules 3Sep 20, 2015 7:27 pm When I owner-built a while ago in NSW we were told by council that you didn't need a licensed waterproofer, but needed to provide documentation of the products used, and that it was applied to the manufacturer instructions to meet the relevant standards. Re: NSW Waterproofing Rules 4Sep 21, 2015 7:08 pm Thanks for the replies - oneJohn - may I ask how long ago you did your building? I think the regulations may have changed in 2012. Liliana - Thanks for the tip, I will PM StewieD and hopefully he will be able to help. I think you might be lucky to be building in Vic! Re: NSW Waterproofing Rules 5Sep 21, 2015 7:56 pm It was well before 2012 for me, so quite likely it's changed since then. Re: NSW Waterproofing Rules 6Sep 22, 2015 4:23 pm Further to a PM I replied to from Keffufal that I have reproduced here for general info for the forum... In NSW the person doing the waterproofing needs to hold a licence issued by the Dept of FT however I think how a lot of these guys get around it is that you apparently only need a licence if the value of the work is over $5,000. For most homeowners with two bathrooms and a laundry for example, the cost to waterproof those rooms would be well below that. If it was me there is no way I'd have an unlicensed guy doing something as important as this on my dream home. I'm unsure how your insurance would go if the waterproofing was done by someone who was unlicensed either All this info you can find on the Dept of FT website. http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/ftw/T ... nsing.page Adding to this I don't know how your certifier would handle this either. I don't know whether they would accept a certificate from someone who isn't licensed. Cheers, Stewie Re: NSW Waterproofing Rules 7Sep 22, 2015 7:38 pm I have perused the Fair Trading website at length and cannot find anything that says that in NSW waterproofing has to be done by a certified person. I will have to check with my council and see what they say. Thanks guys! Re: NSW Waterproofing Rules 9Apr 28, 2016 1:59 pm No, sorry no update yet, still trying to figure this one out... 1 1923 I have researched this topic in detail recently but for another state which has no licensing requirements at all so any handy man can waterproof any old way and not have… 1 8472 "is it exempt or do I need to get permission from council" Call your Council and ask them 1 1568 |
