Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 27, 2015 9:37 pm Hi all who has done a bathroom renovation that could tell me if it's very expensive to take out tiles and replace them ? Our builder talked me out of going with the colour we wanted so now it's too late to change it and worried it will look boring so want to change tiles at some stage Re: Changing tiles after handover 2Aug 27, 2015 9:48 pm Wall or floor? With wall tiles gyprock will probably get damaged when taking the old tiles off quickest way replace gyprock and start over again Re: Changing tiles after handover 4Aug 28, 2015 10:01 am Yes is this not a cheap exercise. My guess would be between $2000 and up to $5000. Water proofing will also need to be redone on the walls depending what state you live in. Re: Changing tiles after handover 5Aug 28, 2015 12:09 pm thank you, I figured it would be costly - wish i'd been more persistent with what I wanted. May need to leave it for a while and just paint the walls hahaha Re: Changing tiles after handover 6Aug 28, 2015 12:44 pm If they aren't already on the walls, and they are that bad that you would consider re-tiling, I would stump up the variation fee and change them now. Re: Changing tiles after handover 10Aug 29, 2015 12:30 pm Yes don't accept that no more variations are allowed. If they won't accept a variation, tell them not to tile it. If they won't accept a variation, tell them not to tile it. Ironically that would be classed as a variation They can ALWAYS do a variation. Complain and ask to speak to managers. Make a post on product review, make your complaint visible. Guarantee you'll get your variation. Re: Changing tiles after handover 13Aug 31, 2015 9:27 am Yes, it can be quite costly to take out tiles and replace them. However, the price does depend on what type of tiles you are going to choose and how complex the work will be. My advice is to do what you think is right.
