The shower is a single size on the right hand side, taking up the entire depth of the room (not a lot). The door frame is 60cm wide. Yes. I'm glad I'm not overweight, let's just say. Right in front is a pedestal sink I hate. I want to find a narrow vanity that has storage and bench space. And a nice big wall mirror with side storage. The toilet is on the other side of the door way, to the left. That's about it. So what I want to know is how much money would be required to remove the existing shower recess tiles (up to the top of the screen which is full height, so I guess 6 foot since it's just over my head and I'm 5'7"), a small amount of tiles behind the vanity, and then re-tile the entire room in matching tiles, floor to ceiling, including the floor tiles and the shower recess tiles? I would go to a place like Beaumont Tiles or something. I love the medium size gloss ones with kind of tan / caramel coloured swirls in them. I don't care what they're made from (doesn't have to be fancy), but they must look good. And the grout must be thin. I got a very basic quote from a builder who said it would not just be tiles, but it would require re-waterproofing in the wall and floor. Is this correct? Can't you just take off the existing tiles and re-lay new ones? Thanks for the help! Re: How much to re-tile tiny ensuite? 2Aug 06, 2015 9:03 pm No. Waterproofing is required to conform to Australian standards. When you rip off a tile, you pull of just the tile. When you then rip off the glue (required for re-tiling), you take off either: a. glue and some mortar (old house) b. glue, waterproofing membrane, and some mortar (newr house) Either situation you are left with no waterproofing, hence the requirement for any tiling job. Re: How much to re-tile tiny ensuite? 3Aug 07, 2015 3:04 pm As he is from the gold coast rb86 I'd add b. glue, waterproofing membrane, and some mortar (newr house) or plasterboard if its a brick veneer house meaning you'd end up re-sheeting the whole room ( probably necessary if you are looking at re-doing some of the plumbing too). Stewie Re: How much to re-tile tiny ensuite? 4Aug 09, 2015 1:59 pm It is a tiny ensuite in an apartment building built around 1980. Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6128 the step up is 30mm and wanting it to be flat . how much does the concrete have to be lowered .we plan on removing bath and lenghten shower and adding seat. the old bath… 0 11829 |
