Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 02, 2015 5:00 pm If you check out my house thread you can see my house design, but basically I will have a 1.8mx3.14m laundry. It will be a straight line layout with a sliding door for entry into the backyard. My question is, should I have the trough next to the sliding door, or the washing machine next to the sliding door and the trough next to that? I will have a basic trough for now, but eventually I plan to renovate/fit out the laundry with over and under bench cupboards and a benchtop. There will be a linen closet as well. I plan to have a front loaded washing machine and no dryer, but would it be better to leave space for a top loader and dryer as I'm planning to rent out the property in a few years? Re: Please help with laundry layout (placement of appliances 2Aug 02, 2015 5:20 pm I would do washing machine next to door. We had our tub next to the door in our last house and the glass always got splashed with water, looked gross, and was really hard to clean because it was tricky to get to. Re: Please help with laundry layout (placement of appliances 3Aug 02, 2015 5:44 pm Wow, that's the best practical advice I've received on why to have it the other way round! I can always pull out the washer to give the door a good clean, but if a cupboard is there I can't. I was worried that it would cut off the benchtop, but I could always have the benchtop still go all the way across. Thanks Re: Please help with laundry layout (placement of appliances 4Aug 02, 2015 6:20 pm You're welcome It's those things that are impossible to think of unless you've had to live with it Re: Please help with laundry layout (placement of appliances 5Aug 04, 2015 5:26 pm Laundry options & ideas: http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b439/Aloenyx/laundry.png Overall I've decided to switch the washing machine and laundry tub positions, so that the WM is closer to the sliding door. 1. Basic tub and linen closet. I will fit out the laundry later as per option 3. 2. Laundry tub upgraded to a double door cupboard with sink and a benchtop added across to the linen closet. I am thinking about asking my builder for a quote on this. I already have the bench top included for free in my quote. This way I will only have to add over head cupboards later on down the track. 3. Final plan! Might add additional cupboards on the bottom, depending on how much space is left. Also thinking of adding a chest freezer. Any suggestion on changes I should make? Re: Please help with laundry layout (placement of appliances 6Aug 04, 2015 8:24 pm Looks good! Where will you be doing ironing? If in laundry a hanging rail under the overhead cupboards would be handy so you can hang things as you go. Also, do you have somewhere to park your vacuum cleaner, mop, broom, etc? Re: Please help with laundry layout (placement of appliances 7Aug 05, 2015 5:38 pm Mhm.. good question, currently I iron on my bed XD And I try to do it as little as often. My mum has a system, whenever somethings needs ironing she puts it in a basket.. at the end of the year she throws out everything in the basket I will probably just iron on the dining room table.. can't imagine spending that long in the laundry to be honest. Or even in the bedroom close to the WIR. Mhm, vaccum, mop and that will either live in the closet in the hall or the garage.
