Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jul 29, 2015 12:19 am About to install a new toilet and like the look and price of the following: Estilo (Bunnings), Allure (Highgrove bathroom supplies) and particularly Oxford (Renolink) Anyone have these toilets in their home? If so, do they work effectively with just the one flush? Any other feedback on these cheaper toilets would be welcome. Re: Toilet reviews and recommendations - Estilo, Allure, Oxf 2Aug 01, 2015 5:35 pm Hi, general consensus amongst most people in our industry is that a toilet is a toilet when it comes to functionality. Any functional problems you should know of within a year (warranty period). So it comes down to non-functional features and how much value they bring. For example, the Oxford is the most entry level wall faced toilet and has standards like a soft close seat and flexible set-out. On the flip side, the life time of the seat will realistically be about 5 years before it starts to make weird sounds, or requires replacement or before the hinges loosen/rust, etc. Its also got corners/ridges/edges that need more cleaning than a continuous side finish. By the way, 5 years is being optimistic and assuming you don't have little kids slamming around the seat and that the bathroom is not a high traffic one. The other two toilets are close-coupled ones. I don't recommend close coupled as they look old fashioned, have extra space behind the toilet to clean and generally most manufacturers don't bother investing in a good seat for these (some exceptions). Its always amusing when I introduce myself to people as someone who sells toilets, I know this stuff so well.. I actually sell the Oxford/Venus at my store, its very popular because its the cheapest wall faced toilet on the market. Re: Toilet reviews and recommendations - Estilo, Allure, Oxf 3Aug 01, 2015 6:49 pm I am interested to find out your opinion on the finish of these toilets. I just replace my old caroma toilets with Cotto wall faced ones. I am not happy with it as the it sticks on the bowl and does not flush out well. I am looking at building a house and replacing Stylus banksia suites with Caroma Morgana Wall Faced Toilet Suite. are these one any good, just picked them up because of the looks. cheers 18/03/15 Deposit 02/09/15 CDC 22/09/15 Slab 05/12/15 Frames 15/12/15 Brick started. 11/04/16 Roof start 04/05/16 Roof finish 09/07/16 Gyprock. I love the idea of rimless sounds much easily to clean? Is it worth the extra $$ https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=you ... 3RqePLbrxw Re: Toilet reviews and recommendations - Estilo, Allure, Oxf 5Aug 03, 2015 8:08 am Have there been tests to compare the functional efficacy of different toilets? I was assuming they doesn't use functionality as a point of difference on account of the difficulty in measuring it, and the distasteful aspect of it. It's easier to get a better selling image by promoting it being stylish, with the hint of being able to save time cleaning, while pretending that all models flush perfectly. I have seen at least some models where the wet portion of the bowl is too far forward, and men struggle to be able to sit far enough forward to avoid smearing the back of the pan. While the flush will still tend to wash this off, the design makes it harder. Re: Toilet reviews and recommendations - Estilo, Allure, Oxf 6Aug 03, 2015 8:47 am There are Australian standards for things such as the flush system and the glazing, these "should" mean that most toilets won't be having many issues functionally. Really when it comes to choosing a toilet, unless you can be sure that its the type where stains are not an issue, then the only thing you can really choose on is how comfortable it is to sit on, how easy it is to clean and how long you think it will remain looking good! Generally the branded toilets are better for things like preventing stains and smears because they have their brand integrity on the line. Worst case scenario when it comes to staining and smearing is to keep a brush and toilet cleaner handy!! The funny thing is, sometimes you hear feedback about particular toiletrs having smears and others swear by those toilets saying they're amazing. Then you hear about these otherwise great toilets that seem to be having smearing/flushing issues, but again, others say they're amazing. No sense over-thinking it too much! RE: Caroma/Cotto question, Caroma is good, pricey and hard to justify the extra cost in most cases, but they most certainly are good. Cotto is a european brand that is generally really good product as well, much more reasonably priced than caroma for equivalent products. Both have good glazing, which is the primary thing that will prevent/cause streaking. Any functional problems you should know of within a year (warranty period). Valuable contribution. Thanks.
