Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jun 13, 2015 9:22 am What is the current opinion on privacy for bathrooms and toilets? I hadn't thought about it much until our colour selections appointment yesterday. I opted to have all bathrooms and toilets upgraded to obscure glass but, after thinking about it last night, I'm not sure it's actually needed. The house we live in now has obscure glass and I STILL close the blinds lol. so probably wouldn't make any difference if the glass was clear. Would love to hear others views (pun intended lol) on this. Re: Bathroom Windows - Obscure or Clear? 4Jun 13, 2015 9:43 am Hi, we have gone for obscure glass in the toilets but a clear glass for our master ensuite and our second bathroom. I do the same, always close the blinds anyway! Plus I like lots of light in bathrooms during the day and having a view to the outside. I did notice that most of the display homes did the same thing, it was always a clear glass for bathrooms and for us personally we just liked this look better. Good luck in deciding!!! Bathroom Windows - Obscure or Clear? 5Jun 13, 2015 10:00 am Obscure definitely. We don't have blinds at all in the bathrooms as there is no need. Certainly would need them if the glass was clear. Re: Bathroom Windows - Obscure or Clear? 6Jun 13, 2015 10:43 am Hmm some good points. We also have a blind in our current toilet and it has NEVER been used due to the obscure glass. But does the window look "unfinished" if you leave the blind off? Re: Bathroom Windows - Obscure or Clear? 7Jun 13, 2015 2:04 pm I have clear windows in my bathrooms. I have high window sills, 1500mm, which allows me to see out when standing but as the bathroom floors are at least 200mm above the ground outside, all an average height person can see is the bathroom ceiling. Also my house is not overlooked by any neighbours. I would only use obscure glass if I was overlooked by neighbours or the road. Re: Bathroom Windows - Obscure or Clear? 8Jun 13, 2015 3:41 pm You could alsways go clear initially then if an issue buy the frosted film bunnings sells and put it on. I actually thought of doing that for 3/4 of the window and leaving top clear so you can see out etc but the parts of your body that need privacy are still obscured. The film Is like $20 for enough to do a window Re: Bathroom Windows - Obscure or Clear? 9Jun 14, 2015 7:56 am I would hate a bathroom window that wasn't obscure glass personally. Before I came across these forums I'd never even imagined people might want to get clear glazing! It seems to be quite popular though ... each to their own. I think you will find its because most project builders charge more as an upgrade for obscure instead of having it as a standard. I do know there are people that prefer clear glazing though - I'm just too much of a prude lol Re: Bathroom Windows - Obscure or Clear? 12Jun 14, 2015 7:25 pm I don't like the look of window coverings over obscure glass so went clear glass and shutters. Also I've seen it done with venetians and blinds. No need to not have privacy, depending on your window coverings!!! Re: Bathroom Windows - Obscure or Clear? 13Jun 14, 2015 7:50 pm +1 for clear and shutters for bathroom and ensuite, obscure for toilet Custom build Northern NSW viewtopic.php?f=31&t=72217 Re: Bathroom Windows - Obscure or Clear? 14Jun 14, 2015 8:57 pm We have translucent for the ensuite but clear for the main bathroom and toilet. In the main bathroom the window is that high, so nobody can look into the bathroom. Toilet has such a small window and again it is placed above the inbuilt cistern so a bit higher than usual, don't see it as a problem, unless we get a neighbour who is constantly watching over our fence...... Re: Bathroom Windows - Obscure or Clear? 15Jun 14, 2015 9:09 pm I think translucent glass makes the room feel boxed in. Clear glass all the way for us, love seeing outside and natural light coming through. We have also opted for shutters though Re: Bathroom Windows - Obscure or Clear? 16Jun 14, 2015 9:23 pm Hehe so I WAS right lots of people prefer it over translucent! I prefer obscure glass without window coverings - window coverings in steamy areas are magnets for dust and I'm lazy Re: Bathroom Windows - Obscure or Clear? 17Jun 15, 2015 1:43 am That's why they invented exhaust fans lol Cheers, Paul (& Lisa) Parkhill 36 by ClarendonHomes in Coomera Retreat H1 Build Thread And Blog Building Blogs List - Go Ahead And Add Yours!!
