Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jun 08, 2015 11:23 pm Hi, I'm hoping someone can help. Our current bathroom has the 1500mm vanity right up against the glass of the shower screen. The first two renovation quotes I got made no mention of this, and would apparently do the same in a new bathroom. Today the third quote guy said, no way can the vanity go right up to the glass. Reason being if the screen were to ever leak it would go into the vanity. The solutions are not great. Either smaller 1200mm vanity with a gap between the vanity and screen; or build a nib wall in the shower and have the vanity go against that. The shower space is already small and the nib wall will really intrude. So, any thoughts on the vanity being right up against the glass? Glass will be opaque by the way. Thanks! Re: Builder says no way can vanity be next to shower screen 2Jun 09, 2015 7:48 am I don't like the idea of the vanity against the glass, I would be going for the smaller vanity. Re: Builder says no way can vanity be next to shower screen 3Jun 09, 2015 8:55 am As per above. It will look good for a year or two until eventually dust and other rubbish finds its way between the two. How will you clean it ? I'd go for the smaller vanity as well and just make the shower area bigger as long as you leave about 75mm between the two so you can get a cleaning cloth down there. Stewie Re: Builder says no way can vanity be next to shower screen 4Jun 09, 2015 9:26 am The current set up has never been cleaned because the gap is only a few mm. I hate to think what is there. The water leaking issue, does that seem valid? Thanks so much. Re: Builder says no way can vanity be next to shower screen 5Jun 09, 2015 10:40 am Well in my experience there should be no leaks from a screen where it meets the wall or floor but most guys seal them with silicone on the outside of the glass not in the shower enclosure so you would need to get the screen in before the vanity gets fitted. Thats if you are leaving little or no gap anyway. Aside from that it shouldn't leak at all ( under the door if is a swing door aside of course ). Stewie Re: Builder says no way can vanity be next to shower screen 6Jun 09, 2015 10:45 pm To build the vanity up to the shower glass builders have said the need to build a little shower nib wall protruding into the glass shower. Like a ledge. That should work and then youll get no space between vanity and glass. Nothing to clean! Stewie Not much else that can be done then. Had the same issue when I built my first place 15 years back. Had to go for a 600mm vanity rather than the one I wanted as builder said it wasn't allowed. Though later I did replace it with a 750 with 30-40mm gap, as others said very hard to keep clean, but no leaking risk. Re: Builder says no way can vanity be next to shower screen 9Jun 25, 2015 10:15 am If it were be is be going nib wall. Hate those 75mm gaps as I think they look dated plus in my experience they just collect dust. The nib makes for a good shelf in shower too. Your shower screen has failed in the way it is designed to fail with tempered glass. You could replace it with laminated safety glass but make sure it has AS standards logo on it 1 11171 i imagine you also have another contract with an architect? and yeah, whatever other's said about special conditions and appendices 16 16007 Transform your bathroom into a sanctuary of calm and sophistication with Hera Bathware's Bathroom Vanity Collection.
