Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 20, 2015 11:30 pm Hi all, we have recently completed handover for our new build! We are so happy with it but feel that our bathrooms are quite plain and would like to add a bit more wow factor by going ahead and tiling floor to ceiling on the walls, in hind site we should have added this in at contract stage but anyway! Our floor tiles are Vibe Latte from Beaumont (a mid brown colour) with travertine grout (a beigey off white colour) we are looking for a tile to complement these. Has anyone used these tiles on the floor and used another to the ceiling??? Also would it look like an afterthought to use a glossy wall tile if the floor tiles are mat? Or should we stick with a mat tile to keep in consistent? Your opinions would be much appreciated. Re: Adding 'wow factor' with wall tiles 2May 21, 2015 8:25 am Do you have cornices in your bathroom ? If you do then when you run your tiles up to the ceiling you will lose the bottom edge of the cornice which doesn't look too good in my opinion. Stewie Re: Adding 'wow factor' with wall tiles 3May 21, 2015 10:01 am Matt tiles on the wall look more "high end" and tend to be popular with people who don't clean bathrooms much themselves (e.g. its very popular in affluent areas). Keep in mind on the wall, matt tiles tend to show little smears often and mark easily. Gloss tiles are more practical for the wall (super easy to clean + show less smears/spots). So it depends on your needs/goals. For example if you have a lot of people/kids using the bathroom and you need the practicality, I'd go gloss. If you just want to make your bathroom as nice looking as possible, I'd go matt. Your floor tile is a plain colour so make sure the product you choose for the wall doesn't have too much pattern/business in it. Its a 400 x 400 size (at least on the Beaumont website) so a good option for the wall would be large format 400 x 800 tiles. This size is predominately dominated by Italian and other European tiles so its worth having a browse through those. I know at my showroom we have some great gloss/lappato finish 400 x 800 with mild beigy toned patterns. Hey, I am wanting to add a second toilet to my house, bit we have limited room. There is a hallway/entry that is never used, so was thinking this could be an option.
