Some builders use just the yellow or red tongue flooring which is okay for under carpet but in wet areas you should use the cement sheeting to avoid the issue. With my knowledge it wouldn't matter what size tiles you use on the floor, they should never lift if laid correctly and if they did it should be under the warranty of the house or bathroom builder. The only impact larger tiles have is achieving the correct fall into drains. It also got very hot up there. After removing 24+ tiles, we found they glued them straight into yellow tongue. And no waterproofing either. Recommend cement sheeting. You will have trouble otherwise. I suspect they came loose when the house was settling.... As others have said its nothing to do with the tiles, its just an extremely poor job done by the builder. Cement sheet should always be used!
