Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry Re: Where do you put your soap? 2Jan 21, 2015 9:02 pm I haven't used a bar of soap since I was about 5, it really grosses me out when it goes soft But if I did use a bar it would be on a tray in the niche! In saying that, we were offered one of those really old fashioned tiles with the built in soap dish...do people really still choose those?! Modified Cisco 37 QLD Re: Where do you put your soap? 3Jan 21, 2015 10:03 pm I love that I have a nib wall in the shower in the ensuite . Love it . But in the bathrooms I have nothing .didnt think of a nich . I bought a $2 tray thing after every use pop it in there and put it in my cabinet . Then take it out for the kids in the morning . .laura soap bars gross me out too but for the kids if I had liquid it would last a day lol Re: Where do you put your soap? 4Jan 22, 2015 5:51 am Well sorry ladies but I like my soap bar well I make my own. You can't let it get soggy.. Something's not right there! But anyway I would suspect that men are not so much perturbed by soap but women are. I think I'm going to have to get a soap dish thing for the niche. Omg the old tile holder.. Nope for me. What about shelves? If you drill into the tiles after, do you ruin the membrane? How does that affect warranties ? Re: Where do you put your soap? 5Jan 22, 2015 6:26 am Yes - I use the big bottle of wash - Woolies is good - but Mrs SM likes soap - so I put one of those holders on the side - metal - but suction on - is quite good. We have a long window in the shower area - high up - and use the ledge for big stuff. But we also have a glass tray attached to the wall. Re: Where do you put your soap? 6Jan 22, 2015 9:19 am If you drill into the wall through the membrane chances are it won't cause any issue unlike the floor where the water lays and can easily penetrate any hole in the membrane. When they install your shower screen they will drill through membrane as its the only way to fix the screens. The trick is if you drill your niche area drill on the walls only and before you insert the screw plug fill the hole with silicone, than insert plug and screw the shelf in. Other option is to just silicone the glass shelf in direct to tiles without any screws, if you silicone the 3 sides of the shelf and allow the shelf to have a very slight fall to the front it will hold quite well silicone is very strong. Re: Where do you put your soap? 8Jan 24, 2015 3:52 am Our builder was niche-resistant, so we specified metal screw-on 'baskets': For the smaller ensuite shower, a corner unit: http://www.reece.com.au/bathrooms/produ ... et-2260173 (We would actually have liked to have two, a shallow over a deep, but decided to wait and see if the one deep one was enough --haven't moved in yet, so we can't say) For the bigger tub over bath downstairs, we used: http://www.reece.com.au/bathrooms/produ ... et-9504260 These are both 'drip through' so the bar soap will dry off and I can hose 'em down with the handshower. You can also get a variety of baskets that will attach to a handshower rail, or, for tubs, that hang on the side or stretch right across. I don't even remember the last time I used soap. In saying that, I had some washing soap in the laundry (for reeeeally bad stains), I had it on a little soap tray in the cupboard. But I didn't have to use it the (nearly) 2 years we were in the house - Napisan and its spray version seemed to do the job! This is the stuff I use (DH doesn't like the smell, so his is the one on the right) - and yes, it's stored in the niche hehe! Re: Where do you put your soap? 12Jan 24, 2015 10:14 am I am a Bar soap person as well but use liquid if I have a scrubber thingy. I have a niche and a draining tray. I would get a stainless steel wire drainer (no soggy soap) as I have had them before and they are neutral enough. Spend a little more so you get one that doesn't rust. Re: Where do you put your soap? 14Jan 24, 2015 12:20 pm <snerk> You guys are too funny. I dream of lining up three matching, beautiful, refillable pump bottles in the bath basket... shampoo, conditioner, body wash. But the reality is that will last for like a week and then it will be back to jumbo size shampoo bottles on the floor and a bar of soap in the basket. Anyone had one of these done recently? Not sure if they are straight forward and easy… 0 776 Thanks mate. Yeah good points!
