Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Dec 07, 2014 8:16 pm Hello, I have gutted my ensuite and bathroom which is on a concrete slab and I am left with just the tiles on the shower basin. I was considering jackhammering these tiles off too but wanted to check a couple of other options. The shower basin is quite deeply set and gets deeper toward the drain (see image), so I was thinking can I just tile over the current tiles to take some of the deepness out of it and save having to jackhammer it? Or if I can't do that can I concrete it to make it less deep? If embedded picture doesn't work please check link. http://imgur.com/QZcmwcm Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Thanks! Re: Can I tile or concrete over current tiles in shower basi 2Dec 07, 2014 9:34 pm Yes you can tile over existing tiles but you will need to use an escutcheon hammer or similar to chip up the glaze on the the tiles to give the adhesive something to key (bond) too. A lot of trades use them for stripping bathrooms and they are very effective for the price. Looking at the age of the existing tiles a water proof membrane may not have been originally installed. I would also jack hammer the existing screed off the structural slab and install a new screed. I jack hammered the screed off my by wet areas floors (bathroom & laundry) using a hired jack hammer. It took about 2 hours which meant I only paid for the minimum half day hire. Then you can waterproof over the wall sheets and down into the slab. You'll then be able to lay a new bed that doesnt have quite as much fall as the current. What is there is way to much if you are laying a square tile without putting multiple cuts through tiles. isn't a garage level with the rest of the house a given? pretty sure they 'came around' long time ago. if you have a flat block, the garage is usually level with the rest… 1 17525 2 5925 Hi Everyone, wondering if anyone has done a prestart lately with summit homes in WA and what kind of costs were associated with adding gpo's and downlights? we are also… 0 3850 |
