Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 07, 2014 2:21 pm Hi all, Like many (I'm hoping) I'm second guessing some of my decisions in regards to my build. Currently I have a standard 720mm door entry to my ensuite, however am considering whether I want to keep it this way for privacy, noise, lighting concerns, or open it up to an open entry of maybe 820? Aesthetically opening the space up will look nicer, but do the pros outweigh the cons? What has everyone else done? Second, the ensuite isn't huge, and I've extended my standard 900 x 900 shower to a 1080 x 900 (deleted "nominal" gaps between cabinet work and the walls and shower). I wanted to do a double shower but was concerned that it would cramp everything up a little too much. My theory behind staying at my current size is allowing room for a wash basket. Ideas and opinions? I'm stuck See below: First Build, Commodore Homes, Alkimos Beach. Really double basin's for me would be removed if means bigger shower, but then others prefer doble basin over shower size... Re: Ensuites, double showers 6Oct 07, 2014 3:55 pm Keep the door, keep the double basin, move the towel rail to the other side of the door and extend the shower down. You'd have to do something about that window but if you could work something out you'd have enough room for a shower head at each end (kind of like the D&D's bathroom from the Block last night). Re: Ensuites, double showers 7Oct 07, 2014 5:06 pm I've got it. Swap shower with toilet position keep window in toilet with door open will let light in then shower can go full width of room where toilet is now. Re: Ensuites, double showers 9Oct 07, 2014 9:11 pm Extend the shower all the way along the wall and have a highlight window in the shower. I'll find a pic of mine. We love having our ensuite open with no door and don't have steam issues but could be annoying if you get up at different times and wake each other up. We do shift work and work totally different shifts and don't find it to be a problem though Re: Ensuites, double showers 12Oct 08, 2014 3:06 pm Great opinions thanks guys keep them coming. As a slight curve ball my slab is already down, so structural changes/rearranging the whole ensuite is somewhat of a no go. I'm thinking smaller changes such as opening the entry/not installing a door frame and door and a double shower are not massive and able to be done. I'm building the place on my own; the double shower is simply for aesthetics and resale value. kat I like your hooks idea, but do your towels tend to take longer to dry? And how wide is your entry? My build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=69032 Re: Ensuites, double showers 13Oct 08, 2014 4:53 pm I would certainly say the towels dry better on a rail than a hook but we just put them outside occasionally and wash them regularly and it's all good. We have V shaped hooks and they hang on them easily. Our opening is around 2m wide. Re: Ensuites, double showers 14Oct 09, 2014 12:16 am Sweet thanks kat. Love your colour and tile selections by the way! First Build, Commodore Homes, Alkimos Beach. DO NOT put a swing door leading into the bathroom definitely change it to a slider. This is the current bathroom with a european laundry.
