Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 05, 2014 11:50 pm Hi guys, The attached pictures show waterproofing that has been applied at the floor of a shower in my bathroom. You can see the tile which has been laid already at the bottom. When the contractor came to start this work @ 8am he had a bare cement render surface to start with. By lunch time he had tiles completely laid over this surface and the rest of the bathroom. The product used is Davco K10 green, and on reading the products instructions this goes totally against them as they state a minimum of 6-8 hours drying time over 2 coats. I feel like he has only done one coat (thin at that). Interestingly.... the entire 20L bucket left behind is empty (must have just had enough left from the last job?). Also....should I be able to see cement still through the waterproofing membrane? Opinions much appreciated as I am currently trying to cancel the contract I have with this company as I have lost confidence in their works. http://imgur.com/hqdGfSO http://imgur.com/Y4yUtCQ Re: Bathroom Waterproofing quality 2Oct 06, 2014 8:15 am Any of the waterproofing we have done in the past we have allowed a full day between coats and we used to do three coats. Sometimes with the first coat if the weather is hot, the surface will suck any moisture out of the membrane compound pretty quick and you can see that it is dry after only a few hours. Your job certainly looks rushed and the waterproofing should look a lot thicker. Stewie Re: Bathroom Waterproofing quality 3Oct 06, 2014 8:30 am Hi Rinmak I totally agree... that is not acceptable I suggest you contact the principal contractor/builder and tell him if you have to do the remedial repair work yourself you will deduct it off the Bill Work should be carried out according to the AS. The good thing about Waterproofing is that it is a buildup of layers so its easily fixed at this stage.hth Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Bathroom Waterproofing quality 4Oct 06, 2014 12:41 pm Thanks guys. Unfortunately because tiles have been laid over the surface already the repair job means we need to rip these up, and I would assume re lay cement etc before we can commence applying proper coats of water proofing. The company in question is insisting that we let them fix these errors and continue with the works, however we have lost faith in their abilities as a result of messing up on something so fundamental to a good job. We are happy to pay them for their labor & materials to date, but they are insisting we owe them a considerable amount more. Is there any organizations you can suggest we approach with this matter if we still cannot reach a mutual agreement with them? They are a HIA member so I would assume that is one, but just wondering if there is any others that exist for this purpose. Re: Bathroom Waterproofing quality 5Oct 06, 2014 1:24 pm I wouldnt be paying them for the work up to date if it is faulty. Tell them you are cancelling your agreement, and thats it. End of story. they are not going to pursue you legally over a bathroom job. Forget them and move on. Re: Bathroom Waterproofing quality 6Oct 07, 2014 8:57 am When waterproofing is done properly you can not see through it to the sheets behind, these problems occur because of shows like THE BLOCK which rush through jobs just for TV purposes and people think this is normal, but its far from the normal trade experience. Cease work immediately and take photos of the works done and the waterproofing container used. You can go onto Davco website and the conditions of their products to be used are listed. DO NOT PAY anything at this time and contact Fair Trading and they will help direct you and resolve this issue. If you allow them to finish they will want full payment than you have to try and prove these issues but its hard to see once finished. Also contact HIA and let them know that a company which is a member is not up to scratch. No one should be liable to pay for works done up to a point if done in correctly, cause it costs you more money to rectify these issues and start again. We are having a bathroom reddone. The builders are putting down two coats of waterproofing and then screed and then another coat of waterproofing. This is what I have been… 0 684 I have researched this topic in detail recently but for another state which has no licensing requirements at all so any handy man can waterproof any old way and not have… 1 8471 2 8644 |
