Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 27, 2014 12:28 pm Hi, We have recently purchased an investment property which requires a bit of work. We are keen to do as little as possible on it prior to renting, but are aiming for a paint job, new blinds, recarpet/polish of floorboards if they're in good nick. Half of the house is 60s original and the other is an extensions built in the 90s that requires little work. A lot of the old house is fibre cement sheeting (asbestos) which we are going to leave for now (apart from sheeting over with gyprock in the hallway due to a crack). The bathroom tiles need an update and I'm after suggestions. There is some cracking of the tiles in the shower/bath however we are trying to avoid ripping everything up (due to the subsequent need for waterproofing & the possibility we might need to resheet the whole bathroom). I have considered tile pain for the wall tiles and retiling over the top of the floor tiles. What are people's thoughts? Re: Bathroom reno - bare necessities 2Aug 27, 2014 12:42 pm You might first want to ensure there is no leak and/or that there is some waterproofing under the existing tiles. The last thing you want to do is have to rip up the tiles you've already put in. If you really just want to do it as for as cheaply as possible - I'd just replace the cracked tiles with some of the same size and get someone in (or even DIY) a spray finish over the tiles. Edit - this is just one that came up on a google search http://www.rustoleum.com.au/index.php/p ... m/tub-tile http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Bathroom reno - bare necessities 4Aug 27, 2014 1:03 pm I've seen a brush painted finish and a spray finish in some houses that are for sale. I suspect they have all been diy jobs and the sprayed one was better. You can still see they have been refinished (the grout is the biggest giveaway) but the spray was a better finish so if you can be bothered making sure the rest of the room is masked off well I'd probably go the spray. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair to do it properly you need to dig out the garden and waterproof the outside of the wall.
