People such as myself, don't deal with such mundane things as bodily functions. It's called colonic irrigation! The toilet is for show. It is DESIGNER! Thanks, Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Room with a view 6Jun 03, 2008 11:22 pm Rachelle that's really insan!! Everything else seems to look up market - to suit their target buyers i assume at that price?
Mike, what does the rest of the house look like? Re: Room with a view 11Jun 03, 2008 11:42 pm The rest of the house is cutting edge and I'm constantly amazed by what people can do with such narrow house.
Putting aside the glass wall....ehem....the vanity was completely out of character with the rest of the bathroom. We've bought our Posh tapware, Villeroy and Bock toilet, Italian tiles, we go to Bunnies and by a fake wood vanity...what the? http://www.realestate.com.au/cgi-bin/rs ... t=res&q=Go mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Room with a view 12Jun 03, 2008 11:44 pm Fake wood vanity, my word not!
IT IS DESIGNER! Once you say the D word one can do whatever the hell one wants!! There's my huff and I'm leaving in it. Jocks! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. As are the neighbours! Jo DON'T assume to speak for the neighbours! I've heard just how 'comfortable' your body is. Lets just say a 'compact' bathroom wouldn't do! Ash. x Re: Room with a view 15Jun 04, 2008 12:10 am to_do_list we go to Bunnies and by a fake wood vanity...what the? LOL, you know what, that's exactly where i thought they'd bought it too!! The rest of the house is very tasteful, except for the main bedroom...a bit more effort could have gone into that i would think, for that price. Its easy to see where the new extension starts in the house, just by difference in the finish. Re: Room with a view 16Jun 04, 2008 12:14 am **Phoenix** Its easy to see where the new extension starts in the house, just by difference in the finish. Or perhaps a deliberate decision not to carry the theme into the main bedroom because of the main feature already there ......the fireplace? mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Room with a view 17Jun 04, 2008 8:23 am **Phoenix** I don't mind it, except i think that the quality of the vanity lets down the room.... I agree the vanity is just WRONG. to_do_list house may be a million bucks but where's the damn toilet paper....! Yes a bit strange. Rachelle yeah the price is insane, but how can you have a bathroom with windows like that and no coverings!! I think the price is more about location than house. Apparently she designed it so she could take showers when it rains... I've got a photo of another narrow house at home (I try to find it) where they have used this concept in a lounge....it...is...absolutely....amazing....because the wall wraps up and becomes a part of the ceiling. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Room with a view 20Jun 04, 2008 10:03 am Amongst all my silliness last night, I was actually trying to make a valid point about designers and price tags.
It seems that sometimes once a particular price range is met, functionality goes out the window in place of wow factor and once that happens design is destroyed. There is no good design without functionality. It is the key component of all good design. As to_do_list said, what about the toilet paper? It sounds mundane until your stuck on the toilet without it! Where to put it? On the floor? Get up to get it out of the vanity every time you use the loo? And don't get my started on cleaning those windows behind the vanity. Who wants to constantly have to be careful washing their hands? That lack of functionality immediately makes this bad design in my book. I think sometimes we become so hung up on aesthetics that we forget to make sure that the spaces we create work. Bathrooms are a major problem area. At least 50% of displays have nowhere to put a towel rail! What the...? This bathroom looks great but you wouldn't want to live with it, so what's the point? I actually think this is really encouraging for the rest of us! Great design is nothing to do with how much money you throw at a project. It's all about smart choices with functionality being the key, and sometimes the best examples of this are to be found in what would be considered lower end projects.
