Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 18, 2014 5:03 pm Hi, all Just want to ask a question to build the bathroom wall. Do I need to install cement sheets or waterproof plasterboard for all the walls or just for shower area? It's full height tiled wall bath room, and I have shower, toilet, and vanity. In terms of waterproof, should I waterproof (apply membrane) more than once? Thanks Re: Bathroom wall waterproof 2Aug 18, 2014 5:58 pm If I were doing a bathroom myself I would always use FC sheeting. Most large volume builders are using aquacheck plasterboard in bathrooms. I think FC sheeting its a much better option!! Yes you usually do more than one coat of the waterproofing membrane. I use sickaflex in the corners first(very flexible and doesn't crack) Then apply the membrane over the top. Villaboard is made out of Fibre Cement. I think villaboard is just the commercial name. It's also general knowledge in the industry that if you say villaboard your talking about the sheet used on wet area walls. When we talk about FC sheet we are talking about the 4.5mm sheet used in soffits or the 6mm used for external clad. I have heard many builders in Sydney call the sheeting in bathrooms FC sheeting! Its like people calling the material on there kitchen doors laminex! Laminex is the product not the material! Villaboard is the product and FC is what its made from. Both terms are correct Cutting Edge Kitchens and Cabinet Making http://cuttingedgekitchens.net.au http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cutting-Edge-Kitchens/290484196676 Mobile : 0419 430 575 PH: 9452 4772 Fax :9452 4772 cuttingedgekitchens@outlook.com Re: Bathroom wall waterproof 8Aug 24, 2014 5:13 pm CuttingEdgeKitchens mgilla Yes villaboard is a commercial name and is a fibre cement product. My op was not to get into a debate on what the commercial properties of villaboard were, it was purely for the OP to go in and ask for the the right thing. Go into bunnings and ask for villaboard and thats what you will get, the right product to sheet a bathroom wall with. Go into bunnings and ask for FC sheeting for your bathroom wall and potentially the uni student doing 3hrs on a sat arvo will sell you 6mm fibro. Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that.
