Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jul 23, 2014 4:49 pm Our ensuite is 2900 x 2900, so not too small & I really, really want a bath.
The question is would the freestanding tub I want "work" in the space allowed for it, or am I pushing it? We have large format bluestoney/grey tiles on the floor and bath end. The shower wall is whit hexagonal tiles & the basin wall is a feature timber (most lilkely blackbutt). I really like the idea of the stark white tub in the corner of grey tiles & timber. However I only have 1900 between the timber wall & the glass of the walk in shower. The tub I have picked is 1700 x 570. I can't go any shorter (we are tall). Is 100 clearance at each end enough for looks & for cleaning? Here is a really rough idea of the layout (and yes I know I need to work out where my towell rack is going to go). I opted for a built in bath for ease of cleaning, but then I'm lazy! Re: Advice on whether a freestanding bath would work here 3Jul 23, 2014 9:10 pm It'll fit but I think cleaning around the back of it would be horrendously difficult. Re: Advice on whether a freestanding bath would work here 4Jul 24, 2014 1:50 pm hello, jim from roundbathcompany here, yes the 1700 is getting tight to achieve a bit more clear space we have a 1640 model available the internal dimensions are the same Re: Advice on whether a freestanding bath would work here 5Jul 24, 2014 5:35 pm RedHotMike It'll fit but I think cleaning around the back of it would be horrendously difficult. Not sure why people think this?? If the bath is properly installed with the correct spacing to the wall then its as easy as push a mop around the side, down the back and up the other side. It really is that easy!! Plus they look so much better!!! If there is enough space to comfortably walk around with said mop, sure, but if it looks like stretching and leaning is involved, forget it. We have had both and I can tell you its a storm in a tea cup. Seriously it is so easy to clean its not funny! Baths are really not that wide and with a 100mm gap to the wall the mop doesn't have to be upright to get around. It can be angled over towards you. My wife isn't that tall and she has never complained (trust me she would complain if it was a problem!!) I know other people who have a freestanding bath off the wall 100mm as above and they don't have a problem with theirs either. I wouldn't like the gap to be much smaller than that though. Stewie Re: Advice on whether a freestanding bath would work here 10Jul 29, 2014 3:09 pm I'm putting a freestanding bath in my bathroom which is just normal sized. I prefer the look of them. Not worried at all about cleaning around it. Couldn't be more annoying than vacuuming under beds and couches ☺ Re: Advice on whether a freestanding bath would work here 11Aug 02, 2014 8:04 am Your room is 2900mm wide so i would reduce shower width to 900 as it is a long area and give that bit extra room around bath, go free standing it looks great. Worst case you can alsways build it in later Re: Advice on whether a freestanding bath would work here 12Aug 02, 2014 9:48 am I would flip the orientation of where the filler is for the bath. They are usually pretty nice looking kit and where you have it, it will be partially hidden by the vanity. If at the other end it could go in the corner and be on display. Bathroom renovation will likely include a back-to-corner bath and we’re considering a freestanding tap with hand-held shower such as the picture included. My hesitation… 0 24697 hi guys.
