Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jul 06, 2014 1:39 am Went to inspect the build progress of my house today and found this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vfy6rziv5lhbxwf/ensuite.jpg I don't know about you guys but my 'inner OCD' would kill me if I have to see this every morning & night when I brush my teeth!! Still shaking my head in disbelief of how they can manage to stuff this up. And we are dealing with a supposedly 'experienced' volume builder who pride themselves in building better & fewer houses than the other builders out there. I'll call them first thing Monday morning & ask them to fix this asap. Now my question is does anyone here with experience & knowledge knows how this 'minor' issue could be fixed? My thought is they should move the basin on the right closer to window, but doing so might mess up with the cabinet panels arrangement, which by the look of it, is already in a correct position. Cheers, Re: D'oh!! misaligned ensuite basins 2Jul 06, 2014 9:32 am The way I see it, the window has not been centred, but the basins are in the right spots. I'm guessing, but that vanity is going along the full length of one of the walls in the ensuite ? If that's the case, then the builder has put the window in the wrong spot. Shouldn't you be asking the builder this? Was there a display home? What do the plans show? 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Re: D'oh!! misaligned ensuite basins 4Jul 06, 2014 11:08 am You will probably find that the window has been placed as per half a bricks dimensions. Project Home Builders generally work out wall lengths and heights, window sizes and placement according to whole brick and half brick sizes so they don't have to pay the brickie to cut bricks. I bet if the window was moved half a brick ( 115mm ) to the right it would be spot on. Stewie Re: D'oh!! misaligned ensuite basins 6Jul 06, 2014 12:22 pm The obvious way to fix it is to move the whole vanity to the left and centre the window between the basins but I gather that is not possible? The brickwork is done as Stewie says and if the window shows like this on your plans and you have signed off on them then it may be yourself who has inadvertently stuffed up. However, if the window on the plans is centred you must insist that it be fixed. When we got the first draft of our plans the window in the loo was off centre and like you it would have driven me barmy so I insisted it be moved. Such a tiny alteration to paperwork but see the result below. http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/s507/grumblebum54/Toilet_zps7bf329b6.jpg Regards, Grumbles Re: D'oh!! misaligned ensuite basins 7Jul 06, 2014 1:14 pm Thanks for all the comments guys! Will go down there again today and measure it all up before I call them tomorrow. Double checked the final drawing and the window is right in the middle of the two basins - so there's no mistake there. Re: D'oh!! misaligned ensuite basins 10Jul 07, 2014 9:15 am Makes you wonder why the cabinet maker didn't bring this up, when check measuring the job. Could have been tackled before the cabinets were manufactured. Quality is like buying oats. If you want good, fresh oats, you'll pay a fair price. However,if you can be satisfied with the oats that have already been through the horse, that comes a little cheaper. Cabinet maker doesn't care, he has done what is asked of him, so why rock the boat? Extra work & time involved to change the cabinet- approach the builder, who will approach the client, get variation signed off, etc. and sometimes the client doesn't even care or even notice it. It would bug the crap out of me everytime I use it. Re: D'oh!! misaligned ensuite basins 12Jul 25, 2014 8:52 am I think this will also annoy me.. are the tiles going to sit over the basin, or is there going to be a very small gap between the basin and the tiles? It also doesn't look like wet area plasterboard has been used either. They are centred on the two cabinet doors below on both sides. If one bowl was moved it would look strange on the vanity. It really looks like the window position wasn't clearly though about! The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6128 the step up is 30mm and wanting it to be flat . how much does the concrete have to be lowered .we plan on removing bath and lenghten shower and adding seat. the old bath… 0 11829 |
