Hi DIY guru's,
I have been informed by the tenants in my investment property that the shower is no longer waterproof and the moisture is damaging internal walls and floors in adjoining rooms.
The shower has 2 fully tiled walls, one screen wall (with 50cm at the bottom tiled against the bath) and the entry is just a curtain. The floor is tiled and is sunk 6cm below the floor level.
I was wondering if it would be easier (and cheaper) to drop a new shower base on top of the existing floor tiles, or is the best option to pull up the tiles and re-waterproof? The bathroom is quite old so any damage to the existing tiles would possibly mean re-tiling the whole bathroom.
The plan after this would be to paint all the existing tiles (both wall and floor) to match the base colour.
So, in summary can a shower base be dropped onto existing tiles (assuming the plumbing can be connected) and can it be sealed against the existing tiled walls properly?
Thanks in advance.
